I heard on the news tonight that there are more retail establishments in the United States where one can purchase a firearm than there are Starbucks establishments in the entire world.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again
Gun reforms are needed
Otherwise it will keep on happening

This is not in jest, but how I feel right now.

I take it it’s still “too soon” to say the words “gun control”, right?

It was 10 minutes away from my house.
Our family friends have yet to hear back about their daughter. I’m praying she’s ok.

It’s a tragedy. And America really needs to figure its shit out.

That is a great idea. I should start a gunshop franchise that sells coffee.

Yes.
To me the Second Amendment is the right for a well organized millitia to bear arms, as in state and local police, the national guard, etc.
Not citizens, no matter their sanity (or lack thereof).
While I feel horrible for victims in the US, you have no idea what illegal firearms have made my country look like. I actually really, really want very strict border controls so that arms runners have a harder time.
a quarter of a million people have died here, and their families look at us for answers and we come empty handed.

Brilliant idea for an article, all they need to do is repost it with each incident, only changing the date. It’ll keep holding true for some time given the rate of progress in boomstickland.

I remember watching a video from The Fifth Estate on gun control in the United States because, wouldn’t you know, a lot of weapons get smuggled into Canada as well as Mexico, and the absurdity of the politics is just depressing. From what I remember, the ATF actually has a list of which stores sell the most guns involved in crimes, yet the NRA lobbied so that these stores couldn’t be shut down. So, not only does the US suffer, but both our countries suffer as well.
Honestly, the US doesn’t really seem like it needs to worry about an outside threat, its the state of affairs within that are the most dangerous to the well-being of its people.

Not drug dealers, gun runners

I’m not even surprised or shocked when it happens now. It sucks that it is such a common occurrence it no longer phases me. I still get peeved when people say “thoughts and prayers”. As if that ever did anything.

Our local range has a huge full service cafe, 2000’+ sf of retail space, and hosts Cars and Coffee for the entire metro area of 1.2 million people or so.
We have a lot of guns in AL, but they tend to stay confined to isolate drug and gang violence...for now.

i already suggested somewhere in Kinja (hahaha my autocorrect corrected kinja to kinja’d)
That it would take one of Trumps kids being a victim and that quickly escalated to only being Ivanka
I personally lost all hope.
I just find it sad everytime.
Happy that here in Canada shit like that ain’t legal.
But mostly sad

I mean, we have our own issues (oh man, do we ever), but I’m usually pretty happy to be Canadian. I really hope America can sort itself out eventually.

We always say something needs to change, but nothing ever does. Honestly, I’ve completely lost hope, because I don’t see anything changing for a long time, since nothing changed after Columbine, Sandy Hook, and now Parkland. We’d rather “have the peace of mind” of having a gun in the house than to actually be safe.
![]() 02/14/2018 at 23:14 |

Seriously, screw thoughts and prayers. As if it’s actually helped or prevented any shooting. Has religion done anything positive in the last 20 years other than be a catalyst for never-ending conflict? Or even over the entire existence of mankind?

The second amendment is meaningless as far as my interpretation of the founding fathers’ intent. Unless your local militia has arms equivalent to the military. Either champion the sale of nukes to private citizens, or shut up and start passing gun laws.
I own guns, but i feel it might not be a bad idea to have a license system with mandatory renewal testing. There would need to be a psychological exam of some sort. Figuring out a peacable disarmament initiative.... there i dunno.

Yeah, just gang and drug violence.

Your state has had three mass shootings in less than a decade, none of which had to do with gangs or drugs. How often you read the paper, Ash? Are you totally full of shit or just completely uneducated? Your state has the second highest firearm related death rate in the country, and Alabama ain’t exactly a hotbed crime.

The argument that the mouth breathers make in support of the second amendment is that they have the constitutional right to turn their town into Aleppo if they deem it necessary.
We have guys on this thread claiming their state doesn’t have a problem with gun violence who live in states with the second highest rate of gun violence in the US. We are a nation of morons.

I own them also and I’m not going around shooting schoolchildren with them. As well, they are revolvers and not gas-operated repeaters. I like them. I don’t know what to do about this either. Where would the threshold be? Get a prescription for antidepressants and surrender your guns?

WTF, indeed.
![]() 02/15/2018 at 08:09 |

Would you mind explaining to me what “mouth breather” is? I keep hearing it but I haven’t a clue.
I put effort into reading and rehearsing a variety of narratives on some of the important issues of the day, especially domestic issues, and I hope that shows in my commentary here. With regard to guns and rampages, I am of the opinion that the problem is a mental health issue, a fracturing of family and society, greatly exacerbated by easy access to firearms. Rather than trying to take away guns, which could never happen in this country, I think we ought to study the public health issues that lead to these massacres.
![]() 02/15/2018 at 08:31 |

It really says something that there’s been so many that you start to forget some.

I only watched a minute 30 of this video, but there you go.
You know a mouth breather when you see one.
More on topic IIRC the CDC CANT study gun violence. Thanks government.

Idk. Occasionally it becomes a self resolving issue with antidepressants and guns. I went on chantix. one week in, i asked my dad to keep my guns for a bit for my safety.
![]() 02/15/2018 at 11:48 |
|
What drives me absolutely crazy is the narrative that
some people/groups
always lean on that it’s a mental health issue. Sure, there is a bit of that but much more than that it’s a goddamn gun control issue. However, nothing will ever get done.
![]() 02/15/2018 at 14:19 |

So what does that make me if I snore?
I’m all for finding solutions, but I won’t be at the head of the line to give my two revolvers to the Fed.
![]() 02/15/2018 at 14:22 |

There might be some red lines like domestic abuse where your guns are confiscated. Child in the home is expelled for violence at school might be another. There too many ways that American citizens have zero skin in any game.
![]() 02/15/2018 at 14:23 |

It’s public health issue exacerbated by a prevalence of firearms in the society.
