I’d take that Toyota over the Silverado in the background all day.

Is that payload capacity? There are so many things wrong with that truck being capable of safely transporting a ton of anything that my head hurts.

That’s a Ram.

Or there’s an old Ranger, and an old F150/250 in the parking lot way in the background

This looks exactly like my grandfather’s truck, except a lot cleaner than I ever saw it.

Commence wistful memories and Good Truck story: he originally bought the truck in Hawaii, where he was a scientist working for the Navy, and shipped it to the mainland when he moved. It faithfully adventured throughout the mountains and deserts of the southwest for many years after that. He spent probably 100 days a year on the road camping, and rigged the bed of the truck to convert into a well-equipped camp kitchen. As a kid I loved camping with him in that truck. All the gear was stored in ammo cans and other military-issue containers that came back from Hawaii with the truck, all under a green tarp stamped with the name of the base. When my grandmother stopped driving he took over her Subaru to drive her around, mostly because the passenger door on the Toyota was too difficult for her to open. At the time, Cash For Clunkers was going on, but he couldn’t bear to let them take his truck off the road, so he gave it away to a hippie nephew, who drove it up and down California’s coast to surf and do carpentry jobs on sailboats. I assume it’s succumbed to rust by now, but it had about as adventurous a life as a humble red Toyota pickup could have.

I was blinded by the Toyota’s beauty and chose to ignore whatever the truck in the back really was.
