I’m just going to assume you weren’t alive yet when these garbage vehicles were roaming streets like wayward rats, spewing coolant and dropping bolts and screws in their wake.

Can we please stop romanticizing the Malaise era? A 90-hp slant six (of 3.7 liters or 221 cubic inches) or a 135-hp 318 “lean-burn” V8 (5.2) in a car that was built with all the care and precision of a plastic AMT model in the hands of a seven-year-old with too much glue and paint in an enclosed space, is nothing to call sexy.

You are correct. This thing is 5-9 years older than me. I did try to buy a 4 door one once but my intent was demo derby. The guy wanted $1000 for his “classic” car that had been sitting in a field for years. I did not buy.

If there’s one thing the Malaise era was good for, it was making landbarges that all but ignored potholes.

I got to ride in an 70s Continental and the passenger area could have accepted an entire small country.
