So, I’m not a real gadget guy. I have an HP laptop that’s not terrible but I only use it for word processing and homework and the like.
I got an iPhone 8 plus last fall because my wife insisted I get that one, and I don’t defy her when she insists on buying expensive stuff. I use my phone for Facebook, Oppo, looking at cars I can’t afford on Craigslist, restroom gaming, taking pictures of cars and my dogs, and playing music in the car.
Last night as I was doing laundry, I dropped it in the washer. Oops. Washer was full. Double oops. While the 8 and 8 plus are water-resistant, that doesn’t apply to the charging port. Phone won’t charge at all through port. My wireless charger is at home.
dammit dammit dammit.
It’s not even noon and I’m at 31%

Have you tried blowing out/drying out the charging port? Some compressed air? You’ve nothing to lose I suppose.
More bad news:
Another possible reason as to why the iPhone’s charging port may not work is due to liquid damage. This can be the culprit if the iPhone got wet or exposed to liquid previously The connections in the charging port of your iPhone might have been short out from liquid damage, thus causing all sorts of problems with your device. In this case, your best possible option is an iPhone repair.

Yeah, I read that. Déjà fait. Also cleaned it with our light solvent and some nonconductive materials.
So it goes.

How long was it in water? Was it on. The iphone 8 is only ip67, that does apply to the charge port though otherwise they wouldn’t get an ip67 rating. But it’s only good for about 3ft of static water for 30min. Only thing that makes sense if it was a brief period and the washer wasn’t running then you probably still had water on the contacts when the phone got plugged in and shorted it out.

The charger port is water resistant on the Samsungs ;)

That has to be it. Water on contacts because I plugged it in after blowing out the charging port. Damnit indeed.
It was in the washing machine for all of about 30 seconds when I realized I didn’t have my phone.

Alright Kurt.

I’d try a different cable and adapter, maybe they built in a fuse or cb for this reason. Reboot is worth a shot if you haven’t tried that. Otherwise I’d try and get a warranty replacement from apple.

The charge port on the iPhone 8 is water resistant like the rest of the phone. To be certified for the IP67 rating, the phone has to be fully functional after leaving the water. Something else killed your port. I’d rather possibly some leftover moisture causing a short.
I’d try to return the iPhone for warranty, but don’t tell them why the port stopped working. ;)

Probably won’t get very far with the warranty in this case .
