I don’t usually take photos while flying but I do end up on planes pretty often out of the Los Angeles area and consider it quite the unique point of view. It just always seems to offer a commanding view of the surrounding mountains that is so easy to access seeing as I’m just sitting in a seat and peering out the window. While nearly everything else about flying kind of sucks, I at least take the time to appreciate the plusses when I can.
I didn’t really take any super interesting photos, but I think you should be able to get the idea if you’ve flown much before. I’ve also found it really rather interesting how cool it is to focus on how fast the plane is going during takeoff. You don’t really notice without looking out the window. At that point it’s kind of just a super fast car until all of a sudden you are in the air magically and cruising around.
Also, planes take you to really cool places sometimes so I continue to have quite the respect for these vehicles!

To your point about focusing on takeoff, I always put the GoPro against the window and start recording. I think it’d be cool to have a GPS overlay or something thrown on to see how fast you’re going as you prepare for takeoff.

Probably wouldn’t be that hard. I would just use track addict on my phone, and then it could sync up with a go pro quite easily. You can get gps speed overlay no problem assuming you ignore the “put your phone in airplane mode” rules.

I always go for window seats for the view. By far the best part of flying.

It’s in the neighborhood of 165 mph, less any headwind component. Varies by airplane/loading of course, but that’s a decent ballpark number.

Yea, I just think it would be interesting to see it go from taxi speed to omgwe’reflying.

You would want vertical speed, too — that’s the interesting one to me, how quickly you gain altitude initially.

Yes, exactly! The more numbers to nerd out on, the better.

Flying is always a thrill for me, even if the airlines are trying hard to make me miserable. 115 years after the Wright Brothers, I remain in awe that sitting in a chair in the sky is even possible.

I hate having to ask the aisle and middle seat passengers to get up every time I go to the bathroom. Its especially inconvenient if they are old and/or feeble. Then you are stuck just holding it for hours and I would rather just avoid that and have the freedom to get up when I please. I have usually done 4+ hour flights so that is why I would care. I dont get up for sub 3 hour flights usually.
