In fact, its easier not having to worry about anything blowing out. There’s a reason I see so many handymen using Suburbans.

Hotter take: almost no one needs a truck

I mean if you want to buy it by the bag for 4 times as much, and make 3 trips in your soccer mom mobile, who am I to judge?
![]() 02/04/2018 at 15:51 |

Actually trucks are good
![]() 02/04/2018 at 15:53 |

vans are cool too

Admit it, you thought about going to get mulch in the E92.

Technically I didn’t have it when this photo was taken, but no.... 3 bags at a time would take like 50 trips to home depot. Haha
![]() 02/04/2018 at 15:58 |

Agreed. For the handful of times you use them, you’d be better off renting one. You can also tow more with most cars than you realize.

As a homeowner, I could never envision myself without a pickup. I can only assume its because I own an ongoing fixer home.

I fit a lot of shit in mine when I moved from San Antonio to Roswell. Got to love the folding seats.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:06 |

Woah, but you’ve got at least one lightbar on the Lexus, right?
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:08 |

Minivans work too. I can fit 4x8 sheets in my Odyssey, or 10' planks. Also, a pair of shorty kayaks, without having to get to the roof.

I see lots of people with my school with full-size trucks. Ford Raptors and such.
Empty pickup beds, no scratches on the factory bed lining
No dust or dirt, or any indication the truck’s seen anything but the finest of fresh, smooth asphalt
Yet I drive a 2-seat, mid-engine sports car that was built 28 years ago, and I have never had trouble hauling all of my belongings in it.

Being a home owner is the only reason I have use for one. But for that very times a year I can just borrow my father in law’s. Plus I have a car with a roof rack, and a Honda Fit which make a decent tiny van.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:26 |

When looking for a newer vehicle I had at least 5 people tell me to get a truck. They all have trucks I can borrow . Usually my dads is the victim because then I get to enjoy heated and cooled seats.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:30 |

That’s what trailers are for. No reason to get a dedicated vehicle for very occasionally moving shit around.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:34 |
|
Not everyone need a truck, and almost no one needs a truck as a daily driver.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:44 |

But this cooler than any trailer, and it costs just $13 a month for insurance and a tag.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 16:46 |
|
True. But not everyone needs a Lexus either. That shit could’ve fit in almost any Toyota station wagon hatchback van thing.
But still people buy pickups or Lexus branded vehicles...long may they have the choice to do either because the human world doesn’t need to be a boring sensible place.

Trucks are just the last couple decades’ land yachts

Jalapeno take, You only need to know someone with a truck.
As some one with a truck, dont let people know you have a truck
![]() 02/04/2018 at 17:15 |

Can confirm. It’s amazing how much these cars can hold. I had the seats down and all of the area behind the front row was full!

The RX is undefeated in our family. Only reason I had my dad come and use his truck to haul stuff the other day was because long boards and toilets and drywall dust. I don’t want that in the normal car.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 17:19 |

Everyone with trucks complains about how everyone asks them to use their trucks and then tells me to buy a truck and I’m like “nah”. It’s pretty easy to get my dads anyways.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 17:20 |

Lexus because comfort haha. If I could afford to buy a Toyota station wagon I would definitely have one though.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 17:31 |

Yeah, that’s definitely fair! My family loves their RX’s too! My dad’s got the black RX350 which has about 125k on it, and mine’s the gray RX330 which is now 200 miles away from 234k! They’re great cars.

I’m just in the process of buying a fixer-upper home, so I’ll need a junk hauler: the GT86 isn’t exactly ideal for that purpose.
I kicked around the idea of a truck for a while, but in the end the plan I’ve settled on is an old SUV with a roof rack, plus a trailer for when I have really bulky or dirty stuff. It just seems like a combo that’ll give me more flexibility.

Hot take; you can jam almost anything into anywhere- google it and see..
I choose to have a truck and canopy instead.

Agreed.

My wife’s RX350 has 100,000 and my parents RX400h has 355,000

355,000 is insane! How much more life do you think it has in it?

Yup

It’s on the original hybrid battery but that’s not doing very well. Still working, but that’s about it. If the battery was replaced it has another few hundred thousand in it. Anything toyota buillds im Japan in its hybrid plants is built to the Nth degree. That’s why Prii have been the go to used car for 15 years+.
![]() 02/04/2018 at 22:05 |
|
Man, that’s really impressive. I doubt they designed the batteries to last that long so it’s even more impressive to me that it’s still going. My RX was built in Japan and I think its quality is higher than my dad’s Canadian built one, but I can imagine that the hybrid cars get even more care!
![]() 02/04/2018 at 22:30 |

My wife’s RX is Canadian built which is sad because my LS and the ISF I’m possibly picking up next weekend are both Japan built. Ssshhhhhh.

Outside of America, nobody has or needs what you call a truck. We still have farms and boats and hobbies. But it turns out a 10m long dually isn’t actually necessary for those things to exist.
The chicken tax might be the biggest scam America has ever seen.
![]() 02/05/2018 at 11:38 |

If I ever get a truck, I’d love one like that. But probably in worse condition. I’d feel bad abusing something that nice.
![]() 02/05/2018 at 14:56 |
|
Though it’s rather photogenic, it’s not a show truck. The paint was done in someones garage, the bed floor is just plywood. I still try to take care of it, and not dent or scratch it up but it is a truck. It can be restored. I’d rather get 20 years of use out it first.
![]() 02/05/2018 at 16:31 |

It makes me happy to know that it is still being used like a truck.
Is it still the original drive train?
![]() 02/05/2018 at 16:40 |
|
No, the flathead has been replaced with a 289, and a floor shift toploader was installed at the same time. Still has the original rearend, which makes highway runs exciting (Geared so low it cruises at near redline doing 65 mph).
![]() 02/05/2018 at 20:56 |

I recall hearing that they didn’t really like highway speeds, and that was one thing that could kill them. Something about the high RPM and the splashing oil system (rather than a pump?) would result in inadequate lubrication, and subsequent failure. Especially because of the gearing.
