I found this under the passenger seat of my 2001.5 Passat while lubing up the locking pin in the slide. It could be from the seat or it could be from somewhere else in the vehicle and at some point got tossed under there.

It’s some sort of microswitch with the little metal part moving. There’s the wire harness connector that has a VW symbol and part number, but the part number is just for the electrical connector, not the switch. The switch had a date code and the name Burgess on it, but mnopart number. There are also two small posts on the switch body to mount it.

is there anything that doesn’t work? Thats probably a good place to start. O wait, 17 year old VW..... I guess lets start with what does work as that is probably a much much shorter list.

To take out the seat, I unplugged the battery for safety. The check engine light still hasn’t come back on. 5 days straight!

But as far as I can tell everything is functional.

Electric seats? Looks like part of a seat switch or limit switch.

I would think that’d trigger an airbag light though. Also quick googling doesn’t seem to match.

Manual, heated seats. It looked like everything was plugged in under there.

I bet it is an old brake light switch.
