Hmmm...let me know how that electric one works. I probably need to get a chainsaw myself and stop borrowing my dad’s

Reminds me that I still have to go get a little chainsaw to supplement the bigger one we have (which is too big for living and the felling of smaller trees).

Thought about a battery powered job like yours but I’d probably only use it out of the truck for fence cleaning. Whereas I’d get all day work out of a little 2 stroker like this one   https://m.stihl.com.au/STIHL-Products/Chainsaws/Homeowner-Chainsaws/2650-1571/MS-180.aspx

I think   an electric chainsaw is a great idea for small time wood cutting. A decent gas saw starts around $300 and goes up from there.

I’ve got one of those - it’s good. Big enough to handle anything that’s not a “you really should get a professional in” job, but small enough to be comfortable and safe. The oil pump is a bit prone to air locking on start of it hasn’t been used for a while, so you need to be careful to  check it’s o iling at the start of the day, but that’s the only problem I’ve had. And the Stihl easy start mechanism is great!

I just got this guy last week. I still haven’t put it to use

Kinja'd!!!

16", 40V and I already had 2 6Ah batteries that fit it, so it wasn't too bad.

Or convince your father he needs a new one, and he’ll give you his old one. I’m still using the 1970-ish Jonsereds that was my father’s and is now mine. That thing has to have a thousand hours of use and it just works great.

always remember to top off the chain lube before each use . Borrowed a neighbors to cut 2 tiny branches. the thing was bone dry and the chain guide worn so much, I couldn’t even tension it properly

You are supposed to get 45 mins of actual run time from the 5 AH battery. I’ve got a battery for the mower. I think I’ll be able to fill the bed of the Taco with between the two of them if not one.

My dad heats his  house with wood and lives in northern Michigan. He cuts a lot of wood. We would go out every weekend and overload a half ton with an 8' bed. He used a Husqvarna and now has a Jonsered chain saw. I don’t know how many hours he put on the Huqvarna before he got the Jonsered.

I think the more you use them the better they are. They don’t like to sit. I used to pray that stupid saw wouldn’t start. Without fail it would fire up.

I was helping my father in law trim a tree with an electric saw once. It wasn’t cutting well, so I asked him for a file to sharpened the chain and when was the last time he did that.

He kinda stared at me, said he has never sharpened the chain. I’m quite sure that chainsaw was over 10 years old at that time.

I thought about gas. I dislike carbs and it will sit most of the time. I’ll probably only use it 5-8 times a year to fill a pickup bed, maybe less. It seems like I would constantly be fighting bad gas and gummed up carbs. Although no worse than the weed trimmer I guess.

I use my Stihl about 5-6 times and year and run it for lets say 1-2 hours per use and have never had issues with the carb or bad gas.
