So I came across an ad on Craigslist that sent me to a dealership website. There are so many things wrong with the car that it is ridiculous that they are asking for a price at $4,000.
!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!!
Let’s start by looking at the cosmetics. Looks like they gave it an amazing cleaning job. However...black duct tape on the header panel? That’s a big drop in value.
And then there’s the carfax. The boys over at CVN’s discord did a VIN check for me. Two accidents on record, one of which necessitated a tow. And the record also indicates that it’s had its title branded as salvage at least once in its lifetime.
And speaking of title? The paperwork is all over the place. It’s been filed in places like California, Arizona, and Iowa. I haven’t looked at the car itself, but the fact that there are no engine bay photos is a big fat red flag.
And an even bigger red flag is the tires. Toyos on the front, Federals on the back. That tells me the previous owner has hooned it on the regular. The only thing that would appeal to me about this car is the fact that it has cruise control.
Would you guys even give this car a second look at $3,999? I didn’t.

Nope. There were enough of these cars made that you can find a nicer one. Are you stuck on just CVPIs or have you considered civilian versions? Civilian Vics are generally better appointed and lived a much better life. Look for a Crown Vic Sport or HPP.

Been looking on the regular, but not decided yet. My priority right now is trying to get the Queen operational. I got the tie rods done last week. Today is the day they put her on the frame rack to measure and straighten if needed. Then tomorrow night is when I move it to the mechanic’s. Or tonight, if they do the frame work before I leave for my shift.

There are a few public auctions around the Puget Sound where you can pick them up for dirt cheap. Only downside is you don’t get to look over them as well, but pay wholesale prices.

I know. I’m looking at one such auction on December 1st. However, the Queen appears to be still in good enough condition that it should be worth repairing
with the insurance money. Today is the day the body shop will be checking the frame.

The James G. Muphy one in Kenmore?

Yep. I know where
the 17 crown vics they’ve got are from: Whatcom County. A member of one of my panther groups just posted a photo of the cars when he was towing some “supplies” in.

I am honestly tempted to go to the dealership, and rip their asking price to pieces by rattling off everything that is wrong with the car. And then offering them $1,200 for it. That’s what it’s worth, at
best
.

T PMS failure lit ? Extremely suspicious looking airbag module?
Uh. Yeah. This thing is a literal death-trap.

Yup.

The mileage is somewhat low... but they were hard miles. I would spend on this depends on what I would find when I check it out in person.
I wouldn’t spend $4K on it. But it might be a good deal at $1500.

That needs to be filmed. I think your being generous at that price.
Good luck on your quest. Just heard about the Queen getting hit. Bummer on that but at this rate your gonna know that car inside and out.

Got mine at auction for 2 grand. With 80000 miles on the clock (also make sure to scroll the odo over to idle hrs as well). Since they stopped rolling off the line back in ‘11, PD ’s started hoarding them. Now when they hit the block, they generally have over 100k showing. It's getting harder to find a good one.

Refreshing them will be around 5k of work, equal to a dealer's used car price on the low end. Which isn't bad.
