I adore the FF more than all the other Ferraris. It's like a super hatchback

What is the appeal of Android Auto or Apple Car Play? I don't get it. Just give me an AUX cable and I'm happy.

who listens to the radio in a Ferrari? :p
Apple and Ferrari seem to have similar characteristics in their demographics, fanboyism, etc.
Also, Hyundai went a step further and release an Android Auto update for almost all 2015+ Hyundais with a touchscreen, and also the 2014 Soul.
And thanks to the aftermarket, you can get it on almost any car!

Even (especially) at the auto show people were asking how much the option to remove Apple CarPlay was. It was a very poor implementation if that wasn’t sterling clear.

It helps bypass some shitty factory infotainment systems. I like Android A uto a lot. Stream Pandora , Spotify, Google Music, use “OK Google” voice commands for Google Maps Navigation, live weather, reads your messages with the option of responding voice to text.

I guess I’m just a luddite. I use Pandora while driving as well as Google maps, but I’ve no need for voice controls or having text messages read to me while driving.

The better first is that it originally came with a screen from the Sebring.

But... You can do all of that with your phone already? My phone connects to my head unit via Bluetooth as soon as I start the car, and my streaming app of choice automatically opens when my phone is connected to my car's head unit. OK Google works great, as does using the phone’s touchscreen when it’s in the mount. What would Android auto give me that I don’t already have?

To be fair, there are some newer cars with atrocious Bluetooth setups. My old civic with a pioneer head unit worked great, but the stereo in the fiat requires you to use some bullshit app. It’s terrible, so I just use the aux cord. But I just don't see the need for something like android auto. The aux cord works great.

It puts your navigation on a bigger, better integrated screen. Not much but something. And honestly everything that can be done to bypass the shitty infotainment package that won’t be updated after a few years is a good idea.

BT is unreliable not everything connects properly 100% everytime . I rather plug it in and be sure and not. fiddle with the phone anymore. And I hate using the phone on the mount which will make it a 2 screen setup, w hen everything you want is on one bigger screen and you can use the rest of the controls on the infotainment.

A larger screen to view the information or maps or playlists. The ability to control the map or playlist navigation using the cars built in touch screen/gesture controls/mechanical knob. I would prefer to have an app like Waze on the larger infotainment screen rather than have my phone in a vent mount even though that works fine.

Eddy Cue one of Apple’s top execs is on the Board of Directors at Ferrari (joined in 2012).

It provides important phone functions straight to your nav screen, replacing inferior car infotainment equivalents.

What important phone functions? I use my phone for navigation, and the phone's screen does a great job of displaying that. I also use my phone for music, but that's not something that I need to look at while driving. I don't text and drive, and I don't make phone calls because it's 2018. So I'm not sure what important functions I need displayed on a separate screen. As long as I can plug in my phone I'm happy. I've never owned a car with an infotainment screen, so I guess I just don't see the need to integrate phone functions into my car.

It’s whatever you use, projected onto a larger, more rigid screen that won’t give when you press on it and won’t wobble while you’re driving. That’s really the entire concept.
The other method would be to create a rigid phone mount where the infotainment screen would normally reside. But for various reasons that has not happened yet.

I'm very happy with my Ram X-mount suction cup mount that I move between cars. And if I could get a new car for cheaper without an infotainment screen, I'd be all for it. It's all of these little things that add up and drive up the price on new cars. I don't need it.
