“
It is with great pride that we take delivery of our first, state-of-the-art A220-100,” said Delta Chief Executive Ed Bastian. “We have big plans for our A220 fleet and are confident that Delta customers and Delta people alike will be delighted with the in-flight experience provided by this thoroughly modern and efficient aircraft. We value our longstanding partnerships with Airbus and Bombardier and are grateful for the great design and manufacturing work done by the team here in Mirabel.”
If you fly Delta, you’re gonna love the A220, it’s great. Feels bigger than it actually is.

“Feels bigger than it actually is.” is a phrase I usually don’t associate with Delta.

The plane does . Took a flight on a Swiss A220 a couple of months ago. I was pleasantly surprised.

The airplane might be great but American air carriers will order them absolutely crammed with the maximum possible number of seats to make sure you are in excruciating pain for the entire flight.

Feels bigger = “we’ll pack 8 extra rows in this bad boy” (to be fair, not calling out Delta specifically on this).

Looks like a direct competitor to the Emabariar 175-195
. The 75-120
seat jet
segment is really taking off. This makes much more sense than trying to fill
160 seat 737's and A320's
for regional air connections.

Does Boeing make anything this small?

No. That’s why they are taking over Embraer.

Nothing quite this small, though the larger variant does overlap a bit with the smallest 737.
Boeing really shot themselves in the foot here though. By bringing an (ultimately overturned) trade challenge, they both forced Bombardier to essentially give away the C Series program to Airbus (A irbus got a 50.1% share of the program for nothing), and they caused Canada to cancel a planned Super Hornet sale to the Canadian military (Canada is instead buying used legacy Hornets from Australia, and will have a new fighter competition , and while the Super Hornet will be considered, people feel there’s no chance they win without major concessions).

So are they going to phase out the 717s ?

The older 717's will gradually leave the fleet as A220's will enter service. But they will have to order more, as they’ve got 91 717's, but ordered only 75 A220's.
