So I went ahead and pulled the trigger on the 2006 Land Cruiser I’ve been looking at. After he had the timing belt, serpentine drive belt and water pump replaced because I just mentioned it, I knew he actually cared about it. It has a few little scrapes and stuff here and there, but for a 12 year old LC, it’s perfect, and it won’t make me feel bad if I add a few more.
Heater Ts will be replaced ASAP, and it looks like most of the maintenance items people mentioned to look out for have been done. Will be flushing trans fluid and diff fluids myself here soon just in case. Rides really well an my daughter loves it. Tires are still new enough to have the rubber nubs sticking off as well.
Will be looking at getting some rock sliders with steps, and possibly an
ARB Deluxe bar. It has the adjustable height control, so not sure if I am going to lift it yet, maybe once that system has an issue. I’ll have to take some more photos of it later.
Here is the CL ad for those interested.

My jaw literally dropped when I saw the listing price. I was looking at mid-00s LCs for so long but couldn’t find anything on the east coast (or anywhere, really) below $20k. One in that condition could have fetched $ 23-25 here. Congrats and hope you enjoy it!

HhFp sent out an invite on O&E just before your article was shared so all you have to do is respond to that and you are in on the dress circle.

Nice buy! I just picked up an 04 a few weeks ago from my dad’s former landlords estate sale.. I don’t even wanna tell you what I paid...
![]() 10/26/2018 at 09:25 |
|
SERIOUSLY! They’re $18k with 240,000 miles around here.

Nice buy, and that price is just shockingly low from my point of view. Looks like I’d have to travel to get one if I ever do.
These are at the top of my list for a big family hauler, but realistically, I’d be better off with a suburban. Cheaper, more plentiful and bigger - around here, there’s no downside to the added size. But man, I want a Land Cruiser. Several years from now, that is.

Welcome to the club! The ahc is reliable so long as you perform routine maintenance on it. If you haven’t already done so check out Sleeping Offroa d, they are the go to shop for all things LC.
Ping me on ih8mud of you have any questions, user name: oakleyguy

I have been lurking on Craigslist for a long time lookin g at these. Can you tell me why the mileage doesn’t concern you versus the price paid ? That is the hump that I really struggle getting over. When I see 200K+ I think end of life and I worry about future reliability .

Good purchase!
There is a twin of your Cruiser on my daily dog walk, I look at the cladding and running boards and imaging how fast I could get them off if it was mine ..
It is owned by a family with a couple
of growing
kids, I see it doing family duty back and forth a few times a day. I haven’t seen an ‘
N’
yet which would mean the kids are learning with it..
They have listed it before for $10K and had no buyers.. I’m hoping they put it up fs again..

You should follow LandCruiserPhil on the grams . his 100 series is perfectly setup in my opinion and a good model to emulate. He’s just using the AHC with the Slee always high mod

If I do start to really look for one, a fly-inspect-drive home is a real possibility.

What are your intended purposes of the truck?
Are you building it “just because” or is there a plan for the build?
Looks like a good platform to start with.
