Kinda a loaded question, but old Cummins Rams have a price inflation issue. I also want to get the most I can.
2000 Ram 2500 Quad Cab Diesel, 5 speed, 2wd, SLT Laramie. 89 ,000 miles. Extremely clean. Also brand new tires (old ones were 18 years old, a testament to keeping cars in garages, also very dangerous )
Was my grandfather’s truck but I don’t think I have too much of an emotional attachment to it. It’s just too much for me, and I feel nervous every time I drive it because of it’s perceived value in it’s pristine condition.
It’s hard for me to get a value. I know it’s not worth $20,000 like some Craigslist ads are asking for similar trucks, but I also know it could sell for more than the $8k KBB says it’s worth.
I know it looks much better without the cap.
It’s certainly a step up from my old Ranger, but I feel like it’s wasting away in my ownership. What will replace it? Whatever I can get with however much I can sell the Ram for. I’d like a newer used Volvo, like a v60, or a 1st gen XC90, something that will be a nice place to sit, not as loud as a Cummins, and be able to move lumber, something I move a lot of as a furniture designer (Volvo also fits that Industrial Design/ architecture lifestyle).
So what do y’all think is a realistic asking price? Is anyone interested? Still just floating the idea, because the other option is keep this truck forever and not think twice about the value.

12-14k seems reasonable to me.

I’ll offer you
500 bucks!

I have no clue but I guarantee you that KBB doesn’t either. It’s effing useless for vehicles this old - hell, it’s worse than useless.

I don't know what that's worth, but I would not sell it to buy any modern Volvo. You'd be better off with a Subaru wagon.

start high and bring it down.

Find a desperate bro who will pay you twice what it’s worth and you’ll walk away a rich man. The truck will end up never getting maintained while getting a lift kit and 32s , but what the hell...
Or try to find an enthusiast who needs a truck for hauling his race car and get top dollar out of them.

That feels like it should be somewhere between 10-15k, but the market for diesel trucks is s o outrageous that I really don’t know. Especially with the shell, that is a desirable tow vehicle to some weekend warrior out there with a racecar.

Replace the wheels with the failing clear (it’s not just brake rust, trust me) and ask at least $20k. It’s below 100k miles and unmolested, much less abused by some coal rolling fucktard . It’s also white, which means it should NOT develop the clearcoat delamination. That makes it a goddamn unicorn.

1- Get it detailed... and I mean, really detailed, and gone over by a good diesel mechanic.
2- Put it on Bring a Trailer
3- Profit. Really. I can see this bringing close to $20k. Yea, its 2wd but its a 5 speed.

Me either, but I’d have one over any Volvo. If you have tons of disposable income, and free time on your hands...get a Volvo.

$12000-ish. For reference I sold my 1999 Cummins like yours but 4x4 with 122k miles for $16,000 two years ago. Four wheel drive will always add 25-40% depending on year, condition, and desirability.
