I took the RallyMetro to work today, so it could officially fail its emissions test after work. It’s getting pulled off the road. If it survives rallycrossing long enough to run next year’s Gambler 500, I’ll use that paperwork to buy a 7-day drive away permit. The old girl was a big hit at the emissions testing station. The tech was calling people over to check it out.
On the way home I stopped to check out this sweet ride . My wife had actually sent me a picture and location of it this morning. She’s somewhat of a poverty special ‘71 Malibu with a bit of rust, but I like it. $4000, NPoCP?

I was kind of divided since the four door isn’t the best looking but it would still be a lot of fun to drive, but Hagerty says a four door Malibu with a 307 is worth $7k-$10k so I guess it’s NP even given the usual Hagerty overpricing.

NP for me might be around $2800. Then again, it’s probably closer to fair market at $3500+ where it is, depending on interior, and I tend to underrate Chevies because I don’t grant them special appeal. Then again again, it’s a four door and therefore UNCLEAN! UNCLEAN! among the people who apparently matter for these things.

The interior was really nice. I like Chevelle's, and while the 2-doors are certainly better looking and way more desirable, they're also way more expensive. This is parked in front of a house that's got a sold sign in front of it, so I'm wondering how motivated they might be.

When I asked her where it was, I was half expecting her to not tell me. When I told her at dinner how much they were asking, her response was, “Oh, that’s not bad.”
I think I might actually be able to talk her into this. Here's the rub, while we could afford this, it would be wildly irresponsible. I'm not sure I want it bad enough to be that irresponsible.

I may actually be able to talk my wife into this one. It would be wildly irresponsible right now though. I'm not sure I want it bad enough to throw that much caution to the wind.

It’s a classic year, but with some rust already showing, and it being a four-door, I’d be like $2,000 if I were feeling philanthropic. I think there’s a lot of feels in that car, but not much premium value. Nice specimen though. How’s the interior?
