I thought Matt was great.

I thought he was growing into the role, but he wants out. Too much time away from home is the story
(which may mean that he thought he wasn’t being paid enough to put up with it).

More reincarnations than Doctor Who...

If I recall correctly, he opted out.

Matt was really getting into the role and his choice to leave was dissappointing to hear. They were developing good chemistry with Chris.
I’m bummed Rory is getting demoted after series 26 though. His segment on Japanese car culture was the highlight of the last series for me and I thought he was underrepresented in the show already.

Opinions vary, crap like this on the other hand is reason for exclusion.
Your post was bad and you should be ashamed.

Step 1 - Admit you have returned to the lean years and are lucky to keep Harris.
Step 2 - Place him among goonish company the British public will never connect with in this role.
Step 3 - Scripted jokes and good films make Top Gear watchable again.

I’ll watch the new trio all the same but Rory was and is fun and I hope series 26 gives him plenty of screen time. DealWithIt.gif

I think most here are fans of Harris in part due to being a former Jalopnik writer. He walked in as a mature professional with years of video and auto journalism experience. Rory, shouldn’t have been put in the same position with expectations of being an onscreen personality and an expert.
Full admission: He personally made an account on Jalopnik to discuss some matters with me. The Jalopnik staff were right in the thick of playfully knocking him around a bit. For reasons stated above he wasn’t seeing this as anything but more negative press. Hopefully hard feeling subside and he comes to realize it was more about fighting for him than with him. He did seem to finally receive some development and mentorship from somewhere within the less flawed input of LeBlanc last season.

I, like many/most of us, as you suggest, am a big fan of Chris, from his time writing for Jalopnik as well as writing/video for EVO, autocar, etc. I skipped the TG series fronted by Chris Evans but went back for series 24 mostly because of Harris. He has plenty of journalism/video experience and that is indeed importance but TV is another game with the addition of a studio audience for good measure. He came off as stiff and somewhat uncomfortable at first but has been improving steadily. He needed time to adjust to work with others in front of the camera, as well as the aforementioned audience.
Rory is a different personality with a very different background, having some previous experience in TV, though not a car show, as well as his own youtube channel, which was centred around cars. He was clearly more comfortable with the TV format/audience from the get-go than Chris, IMO. It was only the show format and chemistry with the other hosts that Rory really need(ed/s) to work on, and that’ s to be expected of all of them - just look at early series of Clarkson/Hammond/May Top Gear, it took time to develop that chemistry as well.
I like the different perspective that Rory brings to the show. He’s not necessarily as focused on the driving dynamics as Harris and many of us as his audience might be. Instead, Rory is clearly enthusiastic about others aspects of cars - the style, technology and culture that surrounds them. I enjoy that as much as I do Harris skidding anything he can get his hands on.

To me your reasoning doesn’t hold up. Sabine and every other person associated with the show, sans Rory, had a large amount of proven wins in front of the camera. Except the morning radio jockey who was given control. Do yourself a favor and go watch the entire span of Evans TG. Then g o check out the mess that is the TG Youtube channel. The closest anything near this show got to enjoyable was someone picking up on the protracted antics of a certain host publicly dealing with a stray cat to flesh out his social media quota or having stupid posedown photos with shotguns dug up.
We didn’t want hard assed and angry. We wanted Harris back at his
irritable Ferrari intrigue causing best
with someone dragging him into
the void of comedic retorts and irreverent pranks that threaten the
national image
. Exhibit enough gosh darned skill to make Evan’s look like the cad he is and bury the stress so deep it doesn’t come out on screen. Something, anything showing signs of life. All BBC did was kill three shows. W
hich
they deserve to have their ass bitten off for
by making it very clear they failed as managers and content providers.
