IMO when driving a vehicle, it is important to have as much information as possible. That of course left me disappointed with the car’s factory gauge cluster:
I decided I like the layout of the Spirit RT cluster and it gave me far more vitals than my original cluster:
Problem arose as 1989-1991 wiring is different than 1992 wiring, which is different yet than my car’s 1993-1995 wiring. The general consensus was the Spririt RT cluster would not work because the 1991 wiring is not compatible with the 1994 wiring. This was disappointing news.............
Then I got to thinking..........My original cluster worked fine when I had the 1992 wiring harness (
not compatible
)
in the car, so what is making people think the 1991 cluster won’t work?
I said to hell with it and ordered one. Installed it last night and:
IT WORKS PERFECTLY!

That first gauge cluster reminds me of the gauge cluster I saw in a Nissan Hardbody in the Lane earlier this year:
Just t he whole poverty spec cluster with replacing the tack in your case with a fuel gauge and in this case, nothing.

Too bad you can’t fit one in from my long departed Omni GLH....

I love it, the car screams at you every time you drive it “you could’ve had a tach ya cheap bastard”

Hey, let me remind you of the time you saved a whole $10, for the next 5-10 years.

So,,what condition makes the “Front Drive” light come on?
![]() 10/18/2018 at 08:23 |

Is the cluster bezel teal, or it just looks that way due to the natural lighting?

When you floor it, it gets really excited about sending all the POWOAR to the front wheels and turns on the light.

I like the upgrade, but I'm honestly kind of wishing that I had a big analog gas gauge like your old one. So much precision! My Fiat has a digital gas gauge broken up into 8ths of a tank. I need more info than that! You think you have a half tank, but 2 minutes later it's 3/8ths.

Coolant temp isn’t working.

It is, it was still cold. ;)

The big gauge seemed to float really bad. I could have 1/2 a tank, then take a corner and it would bury on E. The new one doesn’t seem to float that bad.
I told the wife I’ll probably look at the Tach and be like WTF is up with my gas gauge!?!?!

Same info, different layout.
Not sure I like the gas gauge position in that layout?

It’s actually supposed to have the gear position in that window, but my position part was broken, so I just left the Front Drive block in. I don’t think it even lights up, although I like Duck Duck’s idea on it.....

It’s a Seafoam green surround. I wanted to pull some of the graffiti coloring inside the car and thought it made a nice accent.

Once I started driving a manual, I realized that a tach is largely unnecessary. I let a friend drive my Miata and he asked when to shift. I said I don't know, when it sounds right.

I did the same thing in my comanche! Also had to change the oil sending unit and temp unit to get the right data but it’s so much better.

My gauges were starting to go on the fritz (temp gauge fluctuated depending on whether or not lights were on, voltmeter always read high) and I like knowing what I’m running for revs when cruising. So getting a tach and a proper oil pressure gauge (instead of a fucking dummy light) were good for me.

That fuel tach is hilarious. Good upgrade!

If you managed to run out of fuel with the old cluster you had to be blind.
