I'm Liking How This Is Turning Out

Inspired by the ‘industrial chic’ products at a booth during the last local craft fair, I decided to build our newly adopted 5 year old Rottie a raised table for his food and water bowls, since he’s a B I G B O I and shouldn’t be lean ing over so far to eat. Its not good for them.

Kinja'd!!!

I started with the middle of a 3-table stacked setup the previous homeowners left in the bathroom, knocked the weak legs off it, and cut holes for the bowls.

Kinja'd!!!

Adding a center support, I re-attached the center cut slats and checked the accuracy of my cuts made with a very old but perfectly functional Black & Decker jigsaw .

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

I then bought some 1/2 pipe fittings off Amazon, since no hardware store local had such a small size... or for so cheap.

Kinja'd!!!

These will form the base attachment for the leg assembly I went to Home Depot last night to get pipes and elbows and such for. Just happened to be driving my rental Pacifica and parked in front of a Grand Sport C7.

Kinja'd!!!

Got home and put it all together, and found that my measurements were damn near SPOT ON. That never happens, by the way. Having multiple ways of adjusting the fit via threading is nice though.

Kinja'd!!!

Another reason for raising it off the floor is so this muttbutt doesn’t keep trying to steal his food.

Kinja'd!!!

She seemed confused by it, but generally uninterested . We’ll see how she feels when its full of foods.

Kinja'd!!!

Harvey also seemed uninterested in what I was doing. But that’s how he is.

Now I have to build something for Josie. I feel bad. Maybe a blanket holder, since she likes blankets. And sweatshirts. Or anything resembling a blanket...

Kinja'd!!!

I have to finalize the fitment, clean and paint the pipes, pad the feet so they don’t scratch the floor, and d o some final finish work on the table then its good to go.

And now I want to build more stuff out of pipes. Toilet paper holders, side tables, hooks, brackets..... I’m afraid to look at Pintrest for I may go broke. I’m into this table for about $80 in what I had to buy just for it, and only have a few leftover pieces.

(similar sized shelves and tables were being sold at the craft fair for $125+)

Looks great, a neat job and it turns a somewhat ugly part of the house into something interesting. Coolio.

Neat. This gives me ideas. We’ve got the dogs’ bowls in raised wire racks, but something along these lines with a solid top would better contain the detritus water. The German Shepherd is a sloppy drinker, and she drinks constantly (and from both dogs’ water bowls, because she is the doggie boss).

Our little one drinks like a slob and pushes the bowls all over... while the 80lb moose is very slow and dainty. You’d think it’d be the other way around.

I’d paint the pipe black

I’m thinking wooden (thin)  cutting board

The ones we saw at the fair had a hammered bronze finish, and since the bowls we found (before I decided to build this) are gunmetal, I went with a dark hammered silver color to match them and some other items in the kitchen that fit the farm house/industrial theme

Its easy to change if we don’t like it, or decide to go with another color for other accents in the house.

I built some tables for my apartment that way,  but really tried to minimalize the “look I used pipes” aesthetic. I’ll have to take some pics.

I recently bought this one from Amazon to accomplish similar goals (well, to make it easier for my old husky to eat and to prevent my young German Shepherd from splashing water every damn where). 10/10, would recommend. My house has a very clean and modern A E S T H E T I C so the wireframe and most wood ones wouldn’t work.
