Update
*
Supposedly you can see the show on youtube right now, at least until the BBC takes it down if they’re vigilant. Skip to about 15:00 if you so desire.
I *may* have mentioned the other day that the BBC in cooperation with PBS is doing a show called “Autumnwatch” - apparently a nature show about, well, the changing seasons - here in New England this year, and they took my truck for a day to go drive around, look at foliage, and visit some cultural and historical sites. Whew! That was a long sentence.
More to the point, the BBC’s first LIVE episode aired tonight, and my truck was featured in a 5+minute long pre-recorded bit! It was cool to see, and bizarre at the same time. I thought it looked pretty good, as it tends to from a few feet back. They do talk about the truck, briefly. If you have access to BBC iplayer, you can see it on there, it starts about 16 minutes in. PBS will supposedly air a similar bit, but I have no way of knowing how it will compare. At first I figured they would have wanted a nicely restored... anything (?) but seeing how they used it, the truck’s character - and color - really fit what they were doing.
The rest is all about the local wildlife, and they’re based on the lake that I spend much of my summer on. In fact, their studio is in one of the main camp buildings where I went to summer camp years ago, and then worked for years after that. Apparently they have something like 32 live wildlife cameras all over the grounds, and 3 miles of fiber optic cable linking it all together. It’s quite the operation and we’ve been offered a tour, so we’ll go over later this week.
At risk of violating a whole host of copyright laws, I’ll just share one, okay two screenshots of the truck in action (how mad can they be, I’m promoting the show). As I mentioned, PBS is doing a similar thing later this week, but I don’t know how much they’re showing of the truck as compared to the BBC bit.

that is awesome! you are famous! I’ll watch for the show, (and I promise to watch all the adverts so they can chill about the copyright. )

Pretty neat companion piece to go with a really cool truck!

haha well I figure the show is not well-known in the US, so this can only be good. Right?
I don’t get any credit, except I guess for not ruining the truck when I got it, and just keeping its character the same while improving little bits here and there. For example, it had no seat belts.

awesome

Thanks! I can only imagine how much time went into that 5-minute piece. At least a whole day of filming, not to mention the planning. I’m just glad that a) the truck worked well for them and b) it didn’t blow a brake line or something and cause a crisis. I may put the money toward a dual master cylinder conversion to upgrade the brakes in a big way.

it’s on the youtubes - there is your truck!

YES! Nice find, it’s right at about 15 minutes in.

That would be a good idea.

That’s awesome! The company I work for is currently the subject of a capital one commercial that’s gotten some national play during football games and a lot of airplay on the cable news channels, as well as some print and social media ads. While it’s cool to see myself on TV, the coolest thing for me is seeing a wood sign I made for our office on some of the online ads (since its only featured in the longform of the ad). I can imagine you get a similar feeling seeing your truck, so congrats!

That’s awesome! I’d love to see the sign, kinja may have eaten the pic?

This is the first AutumnWatch they’ve done outside the U.K. which has had a few viewers upset by it, but also a lot saying it makes for a nice change and contrast.
I’m watching right now.
EDIT: Wafflesnfalafels already posted the link.
Your truck fits in perfectly.

Nice! Thanks, yeah it’s amazing how many of the comments on social media are negative toward the location change. It’s a big world out there people!
And thanks, I thought the truck fit well too. I can see now why they liked it. I never thought they would want it with all its... imperfections haha

Insta embeds are a little funky these days, how’s this?

It’s one of those very British shows.
The BBC and other channels have similar shows for other countries.
The BBC heavily documenting North America, Asia, South America, etc... with individual countries focused on for either an episode and/or season.
Some just don’t like change, but they are few thankfully.
The BBC have done the U.S. quite extensively with politics, health system, employment, ecology, geology, mindsets of individuals from all walks of life and how they are different from state to state and how they view each other.
The BBC is pretty much a crown jewel for the U.K. broadcast all around the world.

Just heard Michaela say about your truck, “some of it works, some of it works not so well”. Lol.

How can they complain about copyright issues where he shows a full season of the moose calendar.
Neat truck. We’ll watch the entire show with the kids tomorrow if it’s still up.

How did you like the programme?

It’s neat! My kids will actually love it, they love animals, nature, etc. and they go to preschool at the local nature center that this show is working with quite a bit. It didn’t come up specifically in tonight’s episode but I’m sure it will later.
And I love how well the truck fit into that segment. That was a great quote, I laughed too - the part about some of it not working quite so well. Accurate! Everything... works. Just... yeah. One thing is, there’s just not that much stuff to break!

I laughed at that comment (it’s accurate) - but in hindsight, it’s right after he says it’s the same age as he is. I wonder if it’s a subtle jab at him, joking I’m sure but still... hmm. Those Brits and their dry humour...

Oh, it’s definitely a jab at him.

The part where she is talking about kissing and he floors it. Must have learned about impressing women from Top Gear.

haha well thankfully he didn’t try a handbrake turn in my poor old truck. I’m not sure it would work anyway. I mean, the brake “works” but is definitely in the category of “not so well” like she said.

Thanks, eventually I’d like to get a vintage truck like yours to sell my woodworking stuff out of at flea markets, craft shows, etc. but that is much further down the line.
Is your truck from Washington, NH? I think the first few times I saw it around here, I stupidly assumed the state. It’s really weird to see people mesmorized by the sights of NH too. Hello from the seacoast region btw.

That would be cool to use for selling woodworking stuff, for sure! If you’re patient you can get a pretty good truck for under $5k that will cost you nothing to maintain, insure, register, or repair. This one was only a little more than that and probably only because it’s 4wd (most 4wd’s are either totally ruined or restored to perfection, thus $$$$$).
The truck actually came from Washington, VT. It was a municipal truck in the 60's then became a brush fire truck in the 70's where it remained until 2015. It is funny, and a nice reminder of what a beautiful place this can be. They’re so excited about “beautiful Squam Lake” and I’m like, “can I see my house in the background?!”
The seacoast region is great, we try to make it down at least once per summer, if not more. It’s not that far! We’re about 90 minutes away.

I’ll try to check it out! It’s good, and my kids are interested in the wildlife. Probably no more truck appearances though.
