Noticed my exhaust was quite a bit louder and buzzier than normal. Figured I must have a small leak.

Kinja'd!!!

I dont think I need my soapy water spray bottle to discover that leak.

(The wrap is because there was a pinhole leak that I put some exhaust goop on and wrapped to protect. Didn’t realize the wrap would become structural.)

The wrap probably contributed to the failure

That wrap made it worse, holding the moisture and accelerating the rust.

Hard to say. I dont want take it off since its holding my muffler up. It definitely rusted from the inside out.

I’m assuming smaller engine that it didn’t sound loud. I know on lower RPMs, like under 3k, my 2.5L isn’t loud inside the cabin with the exhaust completely missing the muffler. Stomp on it and up to 4k+, and you’ve got the angriest lawnmower in the world. My truck on the other hand, if it’s not going through the muffler, you immediately know it at idle.

Amusingly the muffler is catching some of it. It was already loud with that muffler but the gap made it significantly higher pitched and lawn mower angry.

Always see evidence of exhausts that have been wrapped have completely disintegrated through rust as the wraps retain water and speeds up the rusting

Womp womp.

Lesson learned. At least I didn't lose the muffler.

If you’re lucky, you can get a cheap exhaust on eBay that’s made of 304 stainless :o)

I’m sure you could fix that with a large soup can, more wrap and some zip ties...

Hah.... hhaahaha

They dont exist. I'm going to throw a flat band on with it some sealant, do a soap water test. If no good I'll have a buddy of mine weld it up. That will arrive Wednesday so tomorrow and Weds we get upset neighbors at 6am
