I always go to the enterprise by my house because I can just walk from home, downside is I almost never get the rental class I ask for. This is my rental. I figured it was a ‘16 or ‘17, but lo and behold it’s a ‘19. Definitely feels like an ‘08 inside unsurprisingly, but I kinda love it being a simple car lover. Basic interior, basic controls, seems to me would make a great, cheaper daily truck.

I love basic rentals, they always make me laugh. Because somehow you can still get cars without cruise control, without bluetooth, and without automatic lights. I feel like these things have to cost more to not include at this point lol. It’s just wild to see no bluetooth and like 30k miles and assume it must be like some 2012 model they’ve had lying around. And then it turns out the car is like a 2019 super base model that only rental companies buy.

That said, I've got a Chevy Cruze this week as a rental for work and it's got all the bells and whistles. And it's comfy and has decent power. It's bizarro world compared to the piece of shit Nissan rogue from last week!!

What’s the point of even trying to rent what you want anymore? I can’t recall a time in the last three years when what I reserved online was actually in the lot.

These days it’s show up and spin the “what’s on the lot” prize wheel. If you’re lucky they’ll “upgrade” you to a larger, generic, rental-spec POS.

I get the smallest thing that I need, which is usually the focus size, as I have an ST and that does everything for me. The only time I’ve gotten what I wanted was when I went on another business trip and got a fusion. The only time I’d prefer to have the rental I want is when I go to NC for thanksgiving. I need something with good mileage, this frontier gets probably 21-24 which is fine when my company reimburses but isn’t when I pay.

I always tell this story. In May I got a rental for a business trip. I rented a Focus, showed up and they didn’t have one, so I got a fully loaded Armada. This thing was insane. Had 30 miles and I had to have been the first renter. I got in, drove two miles to Kroger and my girlfriend commented on how much I loathed it immediately. I got out and she could tell I just hated it. She convinced me to take it back and I got an Elantra hatch. Basic with basically only auto windows and cruise control. I loved it! I’m more of a basic car guy, my FoST is the most loaded car I’ve ever had. The most equipped car I’ve had was probably a fusion hybrid. Probably my second favorite rental to the Elantra.

I liked it less when I saw this. This is a great truck and would probably be a good DD, but I don’t $30k love it. This is an SV auto 4x4 short box

Those Gucci rentals with all the stupid crap are entertaining sometimes. Makes no sense why anyone would want all of that crap, it's just useless stuff that will break and become a burden. But it's fun to have for a week and try to figure out whether any of it is of any value. The newest safety stuff seems ridiculous to me, with the things beeping at me for changing lanes in traffic. But I did learn that radar cruise control is an amazing invention.
