Welcome to Waco. Currently napping in the car. Even if it stops raining now, there will be a 30-minute hold for lightning.

My nickname as a kid was wacko, so when the shit (cult) went down all those years ago in Waco, I heard them all.

UIL for you too, Ttyymmnn? My band goes on the field at 8pm tonight (MDT, of course), so we aren't meeting for another 3 hours.

No, this is BOA. UIL Region 26 is next weekend. Weather is bad in Waco and all of North Texas, and they had to cancel the contest half way through because a tornado was reported. Our band did get to play, though. A lot of schools drove a long way and just have to turn around and head back.

Robotics competition for us today. My son’s team didn’t place. He said they forgot to calibrate the motors, so their bot went out of bounds after they had gathered all the required pieces. The bot could be reset with a touch penalty, but all the pieces they gathered, the ones required for the second stage of their task, had to be left out of bounds.

They ended up canceling the contest due to a tornado warning. So we’ll never know how we would have ranked, but the band played well.

That’s the best form of practice - suiting up and playing in a contest with no repercussions if they performed poorly.
Good to see they are playing it safe. I dated a girls whose brother was killed by a lightning strike at a football game. It wasn’t even raining at the time.

They've got lightning alarms at all the stadiums now. Not sure how they work, but if it goes off, the 30-minute clock stops. Even if they get to 29 minutes, another alarm starts the clock over.

Cool. I didn’t know that!

Our transportation department charges $200 per bus per event. Those schools who had to turn around are going to have to eat that cost, and that won't pretty. Some booster clubs will be having emergency car washes, I bet. :/

One of the schools that competed today, Waxahachie HS, got hit by a possible tornado while their band was performing. Bad weather all around here today.
