I just realized that I’ve been ordering things, needed and otherwise, from Amazon for nineteen years . That’s a lot of money funneled to build the Hall of Doom. Anyone got me beat?

My Grandma was buying me books from Amazon all the back in the late 90's. I still vaguely recall the time when I associated Amazon with book orders.

What’s even creepier is if you are a prime user and you use the music app, every cd you bought that had a digital version on Amazon will be on your account

I know I bought books from them in 1996 and 1997. My current account with them is for an email address I didn’t have until 2004 though.

Right behind you at 99. Back then, they were projected to be losing money for the next decade, but the stock price was still climbing as their customer base was growing. It survived the dot com bubble, though.

Only 2002 for me. On the other hand, last time I checked (at the end of last year), I had spent something like $33,000 at Amazon since 2006. Tried to get an updated report, but it’s failing for me now.

Yeah, at first it was pretty much books only. Back then only the bookstores thought Amazon would put them out of business.

I remember always thinking of them as just “that Internet bookstore” until one day, bam, suddenly they were selling everything. These commercials were the first time I realized how big they had actually gotten. I want to say early 2000s?
