1998 Mark III Jetta. VR6, 5-speed and only 135k miles. I emailed the seller yesterday, and he just texted me back (yes, at 1:30 AM) with zero further information (I asked if the timing chains/guides were done- he just said “ all maintenance was done” as prescribed by a VW dealer- he probably doesn’t know the specifics ) and zero better pictures. It might be worth a look.

Well, it’s a VW, sooooooooo......

The manual doesn’t say to do chains and guides AFAIK , so they haven’t been done.

For 2 grand, that’s throw away money anyway. You know it. The seller knows it. How much car life do you reckon 2 grand should buy you? Yes it is a VW but by now everything that would've broken will be broken and fixed...and everything else is a lottery no matter which 2000 dollar car you pick.

If you get a ‘95 we could call you Jesse.

If he has 4 other VW s then it seems like he is the kind of person who should be able to give you specifics on exactly what maintenance has been done.
LOL at “amazingly fast”

mk3's are a lot of things, amazingly fast isn’t usually one of them..
I like it, reminds me of my 97;

I’ve previously owned a red ‘98 2.0. It was quicker than a glacier. The VR6 would certainly help this one out and make it fun to drive, but I wouldn’t expect it to be a barn burner.

As far as $2k cars go, this looks pretty good!

Don’t want: 2.0 ABA automatic. Do want: Brake calipers.

I looked it up, and it’s an independent shop specializing in VWs, so there’s a chance they recommended it.

Solid point.
