Smashed potatoes with grated mixed cheese.

Stab a few potatoes a few times, stick on a plate. And cover with some kitchen roll for ten minutes.

Have the oven on at 200c preheating in the mean time.

Take the potatoes out the microwave, if a sharp knife runs smoothly through it, they are done.

Stick potatoes on a try and hit with a little force to break them open but not pulverised.

Spray with oil or brush with melted butter and lightly salt.

Place in the oven for 15-20 minutes to crisp up then sprinkle grated cheese over and cook for another five minutes or so then serve.

Beautiful.

Potatoes are great. You can boil em, mash em, stick em in a stew...

Or you can do that. That also looks delicious.

Svend I saw an article about baked potatoes the other day and I thought I should make some...this just drives the point home.  Great post!

Guess I’ve decided what I’m having with burgers and salad tomorrow night.

Needs more bacon. Perhaps a sprinkle of chives here and there too, and a pint of good bitter on the side.

It’s great comfort food.

They are so easy to do.

You can even do them in the microwave for 10-15 minutes if your not bothered about crispy skins. Again, simply run a sharp knife through, and underdone potato will offer resistance and sound a little chalky as you push the knife through the centre.

I don’t know the types of potato you have over there but your cooking for a general cooking potato you’d make fries with or similar that doesn’t have too much starch in.

I just made a large pile of it but if you take medium to large potatoes and ‘smash’ them, but back in the oven and then take out and sprinkle some cheese on you can make them more presentable.

Even say use a narrow cup bottom to ‘smash’ it and then place the cheese in the divot to caramelise and then serve. But the best bit is to butter or spray the skin with oil and a light salting.

I am having another bitter.

I’ve some diced panchetta in the fridge but wanted simple grated cheese.

I hope it’s pre-breakfast breakfast.

You need to try the Batchelors ones we have.

Pasta and sauce pots, rice and sauce pots.

They are great, not gourmet by any stretch but quick and tasty, add water, stir and leave for two minutes to thicken, stir again and eat.

WHAT???? Have a pasta pot at 4am, to tide you over until 2pm?

The pasta ones are:

Cheese &  Broccoli (my go to)

Chicken & Mushroom (quite good)

Mac’N’Cheese

Rich Bolognese (good)

Cheese & Panchetta (good)

Tomato & Basil

Spicy Arrabiatta (okay)

The rice ones are:

C hicken & M ushroom (quite good)

BBQ Beef

Sweet & Sour (nice)

Mild Curry (nice)

As well as the traditional pot noodles.

Then there’s the soup pots but if you can stretch to a pan batchelors do noodles, pasta, rice, risotto,

cheese n brocolli sounds good.. should be able to find that one in the local sainsburys (tescos if i feel like a longer walk)

and yeah 4 am till 2.... dats my early shift.... i refuse to eat at work... cafetaria ladies literally cant cook a sausage roll right and the coffee taste like ditch water

so for those 8 hours i live on water and nicotine

(i could pack a lunch... but no... fuck that)

Both options look pretty tasty - I think further research will be undertaken in this field. I’d probably use your original for something like a ham, where the “more presentable” option would go great with a steak.

I usually go for the Cheese & Broccoli Pasta N Sauce.

Boil some water, add to pasta, bring back to the boil then simmer ( I like the suggested, adding milk and butter, then simmer ).

Lovely creamy sauce. T he packets take up less space than the pasta pots which aren’t malleable and are have air that takes up needless space.

Kinja'd!!!

They don’t do the rice or pasta pots in Sainsburys.

They do them at Tesco but they are £1.1 0 each (2 for £1.50) but if there is an ASDA nearby, they are only 50p.

Sorry. i’m off to bed. Having lunch at a Sicilian restaurant. Not sure how it’ll go, their wine menu is awful and the range of food seems okay, we’re going for dinner there Friday and I want to check the place out.

I had a “Cincinnati style” baked potato tonight, Svend. Skyline chili w/ habanero cheese, sour cream drizzle and hot sauce!

Did you enjoy it?

That’s the thing about jacket potatoes, they are versatile, as easy or complex as you want to make them, filling and can be topped with virtually anything.
