I need something for work outside the office. Unfortunately there are a couple programs I use daily that aren’t fully-featured on mobile devices. Ray of sunshine for your time.

Requirements : cheap, small. Convertible t ablet functionality would be nice, but cheap is the prime factor here. I haven’t used a computer regularly ever since smartphones became so capable, so I no longer know much about the market. Can I still get USB and SD card ports?

Samsung brand Chrime book. It’s is by far the best super cheap laptop option out there in my opinion. That being said, you can’t run MS  word on it.

I used Bing Rewards points at the online Microsoft Store and got an excellent discount off a Dell Inspiron 15. Full keyboard, touchscreen, CD/DVD and SD drives, 1 TB HD, and IIRC 12GB of RAM. I wish it had a stronger graphics setup but for what I paid I have no complaints.

ASUS and the mid-tier Acers are good values.

What exactly is cheap? I just got one of these for work and I like it a lot. It will even game if you are interested.

honestly buy a refurb’d or used thinkpad T450 or T460, or HP elitebook 840 G2 or G3, or a Dell Latitude E7450 or 7470... buy RAM + SSD yourself and get one with FHD display . Easy to work on, reliable, built well, should be under $400 total and way better than anything new under $700

I like Dells, been ordering them through their small business website - I like their low/mid grade basic business models with a hotter I5 chip, (no goofy touch screens, nothing fancy but everything I need.)

D o you need full on Windows or just a full web browser? I’ve had my wife on nothing but a Chromebook for the past couple years. This one has good resolution, small, cheap, and flips.

That was my first choice. Seems like the go-to. Now to see if I can find one at a low enough price to consider...

I like the chrome book idea, but I need E xcel. The Google equivalent gives me formatting issues that are a bit of a headache. Does  Office not play nice with Chromebooks?

There’s no way to install full-on Office on a Chromebook, but if your company is on Office 365, you can pull up your Excel and other Office files through a browser.

That said, I’ve never fully relied on the O365 web apps as my primary way to  get work done, I’ve only used them in a pinch.
