My BRZ was sideswiped, literally two days after i got it back from my tuner, and I dropped it off at my favorite body shop in Dallas, JP Euro. They have done killer work on some of my friends’ cars and my family’s cars. Unfortunately the K1X crystal white pearl on the BRZ is notoriously difficult to paint match and blend, so they’ve had the car for 3 weeks, and when I went to pick it up this morning, I saw a few blemishes I couldn’t overlook. Time for more paint work... I miss my baby. Photos attached.

One reason to be picky is because whoever buys the car after you is going to be; especially so if it’s got an accident on the report.

eh... if you’re paying for it you get to be picky (especially given what a decent paintjob costs)
sucks that the car will be gone longer tho

I wasn’t planning on selling it, its too heavily modified for me to get any of my money back, and I love it too much to let some other fool touch it.

Insurance is taking care of everything, I didn’ t even have to pay the deductible since it was a hit and run i got on film.

isn’t that what blending is for? or is it that hard to match?

The white on the BRZ and WRX is a multi part pearl paint. You cant really see it in photos but it has a lot of sparkle to it which makes it a massive pain in the ass to match the mix of the new paint to the old paint.

This shop has the match down almost perfectly, its really just the small blemishes that annoyed me.

while pearls are slightly more difficult to deal with, it doesn’t add any real time to the process that would require them to keep the car any longer unless they rolled with it and pulled it outside to discover no match . More times than not it ’s a shop excuse for delay.
these days with water based base coats they often need to do test spray out panels with clear to be sure the color is correct. The water based base coats have a strange look before clear, many times showing a really blue side tone, so even n ormal colors can require them to do spray outs before where in the past it was usually only pearls and mid coat reds that required it. It also helps to use similar colored undercoats to OEM as they can have an effect as well.

That really sucks :(
Ask them to mix a larger batch of paint and keep the left overs for later.
