Gale Banks of Banks Diesel Tuning is in the middle of a great YouTube series on diff covers. It is a very in depth look at how diff lubrication works and how bad you can screw it up with an “upgrade”. I’m guessing part 3 will be out in a few days.

We don’t deserve Gale Banks. Dude is an engineer who can actually talk.

I love nitty gritty engineering as much (or more) than the next fellow, I really do, but this is...so far... 4 videos and 50 minutes to explain aftermarket diff covers. Thats why they call it “editing”

I, admittedly, didn't binge watch the videos, but I was never bored nor had a part that would have been good to edit out. I'm most looking forward to part 3 though since it is where the numbers will get crunched.

I’ve taken to watching a lot of youtube videos at 1.25- 1.5x speed. I just watched one of these and you can keep up with what he’s saying at 2x.

So far I haven’t seen any data. I don’t think he’s wrong, but all we’ve seen is that we can see fluid whippin around a clear case. He’s got a theory and I respect his theory but its not been born out in any data yet and all the visuals we’ve seen and his analysis is all confirmation bias. Im looking forward to the next part (3) where there is actually data.
