The sunroof started to act up on my LS430. R andomly opening and not wanting to close. I pulled the fuse until I could get it sorted.
While I had it at the dealer for an oil change I inquired about a new switch. They only sell it as a complete assembly.
not my image
I knew it would be expensive. I was hoping for $200-300 but was expecting $600 or so.
Nope.

$1600!!!!!
imma pass, thanks
No LS430's to be found in any local junkyard, so I checked ebay. $45 and 30 minutes of install time later and I have a working sunroof again. aw yiss
I only replaced the switch itself.
I hate these little connections.
Yep. Broke a clip. But this was the bad switch anyways.
Managed to not break the one off the donor.

Hey, when you do the math, replacing that switch every year on most cars compared to replacing that switch after nearly two decades, they are probably pretty similar in price overall.

There should be a recall.

Ouch! Glad you went a different route than a new assembly. I shouldn’t be surprised, but my RX330 has the same overhead console and I think it’s kind of funny especially since your car was probably over $40k more than mine new! It is a pretty high quality assembly though. Now let’s just hope my sunroof controls don’t act up.

One more reason to hate sunroofs, especially as a car ages. Do you have any idea how hard it was to find the plastic slides/guides for a BMW E21 20 years after it went out of production? Hen’s teeth...

If sun roof electronics failed that often then no-one would have them in the first place.
I certainly wouldn’t own a car with a sun roof. It is a ridiculously impractical thing to have in sun drenched Oz. Convertible, on the other hand...

This is the first car I bought that had one. I usually will avoid them like the plague, but there was no avoiding them with this car.

D emand a full refund!!
I will say though i do have a 92 accord with a sun roof that still works and never been touched. I will admit it would be nice to have it automatic open and close.
