Meguiar’s interior quick detailer or Lexol cleaners are really great and found everywhere locally.

I don’t have direct comparative experience, but my research a couple years ago yielded Lexol.

I use Meguiars Gold Class leather conditioner/cleaner every 6 months or so. I think I’ve read it’s the same stuff MB puts in their own bottle.

I’ve heard that Leatherique is some of the best stuff to use, though I’ve never actually used it myself.

If you start early (before any stains or cracking), then Lexol.

Otherwise just pour on the Meguiar’s and scrub like hell.

Source: almost 15 consecutive years of tan leather.

Long Term Solution: Dark leather

This is what I used last. Got a little overspray on my cluster that I didn’t immediately notice and it etched the clear plastic.

Leather and vinyl looked good afterwards though.

I’ve used Meguiar’s gold class leather cleaner/conditioner in the past, but I like the lexol set of products a lot better (especially on older leather that may be neglected/dirty/dried out). Scrub harder than you think you need to with a wet rag and the cleaner, then wipe with a dry cloth and let it dry for completely for at least an hour. Then come back with the conditioner, work in, let it sit for an hour or so, and then wipe of the the excess with a clean cloth and the enjoy. Repeat as needed 3 or 4 times a year.

Just used that on the seats in my El Camino and was amazed how much dirt it was able to clean off. The towels ended up filthy. I like their Wash and Wax product as well.

Gliptone or Renovo are great cleaners and conditioners.

Also a good detailing brush to agitate in small circles to get right into the nooks and crannies.

It’s time consuming but I’ve started enjoying the whole process.

Also for beige or light coloured leathers, seal the leather with a good sealant such as Gtechniq L1, this will reduce dye transfer, staining and abrasion to the leather.

I use Mother’s Leather Cleaner and Conditioner. Fair warning, my cars have black leather, so no idea if it cleans light colors well.

I use Lexol. It’s kind of smelly, but the smell dissapates within a day.

I tried using the groits stuff you can find in stores now. Felt like it mostly stripped die out of the seats. Thankfully I didn’t go all in with it.

I used to use only Lexol cleaner and conditioner but found a 3 step product bundle on Amazon from a company called Leather Masters that works real good - cleaner, conditioner and protectant cream.

everything marketed for cleaning and conditioning leather used in automotive applications are nothing but extremely well marketed weak soaps and “conditioning” shit that sits on the top trapping dirt. Lexol being the worst offender of any product I’ve encountered.

I refurb leather for a living, I use soap and water and not a single conditioning product. I also use nothing on plastics and vinyls as well other than soap and water.

Start by using a 50/50 mix of Woolite and water as it has a low PH level. Spray evenly over surface (I do the seat back and seat bottom separately) and immediately scrub with either a soft bristle brush or light duty Scotch Brite (the white ones for auto paint prep work well) then dry thoroughly with a clean towel. Sometimes when you get the leather wet the topcoat will change color a little depending on manufacturer, BMW being one of those. It’s important to work quickly with BMW’s. Sometimes when finished it can look uneven, walk away. Work your way around the car then go back to the first seat...it should have dried to normal appearance. If there are streaks or it looks uneven, repeat the cleaning process. If the Woolite is too light duty, switch to Simple Green and water mix.

Automotive leather is top coated, there is no amount of conditioner that will penetrate the top coat and treat the hide. The only way to treat top coated leather in automobiles is to remove and treat the underside with oils or “hide food”. Best thing to do is keep it clean with light duty soap and you won’t have that dirt getting trapped in the grain and topcoat.

Leatherique rejouvinator and prestine clean are the best cleaner and restorer I’ve heard of. Not your normal wipe on and off but the results are crazy.
