... and we got slaughtered. 12 other bids, we might have been in the top 4? Maybe? :( No new home for Zoidberg.
Sorry, just wanted to vent. Have to go home and put on a happy face, tell me wife we’ll find something better, other potential lies.

spend that $30,000 on a used RV
sell house
give me the money you get from the house for this wonderful idea

Sell house and move to Spokane. Profit.

Bidding wars are back? Damn.
Time to sit on the sidelines for another 5-10 years...these realtors need to get their acts together on pricing, they’re really doing homeowners a disservice IMO putting them on the market so low.

You know, this would work. Hell, just Cle Elum is far enough to find cheap housing that would leave him way ahead on the house.

Ouch. A friend of mine just sold a house 4 hours after putting it on the market, For asking price. It’s a seller’s market for sure

Sorry to hear, that’s dumb. If it makes you feel any better we went and looked at a house tonight and it didn’t have a shower and no reasonable means of installing one. I took off work early and drove through awful traffic to look at the goddamn place.

I’m sorry, man. It’ll be interesting to learn what they took. We started watching that during our search so we could better estimate what people would take.
Our house was a unicorn, though. Below asking and on the market for a month. That simply doesn’t happen around here, even out where I live.

We’ve been seeing it a lot with rentals lately too. They list it kinda low, and once a few people are interested the price increases a couple hundred a month.
Thank God things like Zillow exist that give pricing histories on these homes.

Don’t despair. Do you want the new house, or is this just chasing a bigger mortgage to please who must be pleased?

Brutal.
We’re rooting for ya Crabman! The right one has got to appear eventually. Keeping our collective fingers crossed for ya.

This whole saga is insane - it’s gotta be a bubble out there, but who the hell knows when it will pop.
Good luck - hope you are the lucky winner one of these days. It’s bound to happen.

The greater Seattle area has bidding wars on every property anywhere within about a 70-mile radius. This has been going on for years...

Picture of the other buyers.

That’s a seller’s market...

Cle Elum is now a ritzy golf community and I fucking loath them. I used to have to work out there five years. There are million dollar vacation homes in the middle on nowhere, not terribly amazing homes mind you, they have a fucking gate guard and everyone I’ve met there is on a different plane of existence.
![]() 01/24/2018 at 23:39 |

No, I want a different house. And I can afford what I offered.
![]() 01/24/2018 at 23:39 |

Soon hopefully. In some cities nearby it’s $1800 a month to rent a bedroom-sized studio with a communal kitchen shared between eight units, no laundry and no parking spots. “luxury” homes

Hah, I will admit I felt like I was being sized up by the neighbors when I was checking the home, but everyone does that anywhere:/

we’ve got a few houses in Kingsgate for sale...

I realized my mistake, it’s fixed

Damn. WTF?
The only person I know that pulled off the move east went to Yakima, but I’d heard that Cle Elum was still pretty cheap...
One place I know isn’t: Chelan. It’s like a resort town these days with these palatial million-dollar homes everywhere.

Dafuq? What’s going on in the Seattle area that’s driving prices so crazy? I have family out there - luckily they both bought their houses some years ago.

Did they appreciate your sweet luxury ride? Because if they didn’t, they didn’t deserve to be graced by the presence of such understated class.

Come and buy mine! Only chasing AU$280,000... hopefully someone will offer us more too!

Try the Bay Area! $700k list, sells for a million.

I love Spokane. If they had a cheaper airport I’d go for this in a heartbeat.

Don’t worry comrade, one day all housing will be free!
![]() 01/25/2018 at 01:25 |

That sucks! Where are you located? Here in SF I even hesitate to tell you how much over ask I had to pay for my house...
But!! I found out a few things at the end of last year: (1) mortgage rates are super low in Europe (think 2.0%) and (2) it is actually illegal to put a house on the market for a certain price and not sell it for that price in France (and also illegal to sell it for a higher price). Sounds weird to my American ears, but that doesn’t mean I haven’t been practicing French on Duolingo. We can both just move there and get matching 2CVs.

Works for me. Then there would be one more slightly looney car nut around here to come to my rescue when my POS breaks down.

On the contrary, they know exactly what they’re doing.

Amazon, basically.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 02:02 |

They should have left it for a week and prompted a bidding war, and sold it for 20% over asking with no contingencies.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 02:05 |

See you there. Every time I go to Europe I end up looking at real estate.

Sounds familiar (Seattle).
![]() 01/25/2018 at 05:38 |

They had things 100% set up to move 300 miles away asap. So They were anxious to sell, even willing to take a loss.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 05:46 |

don’t take this the wrong way.
maybe consider buying a vacant block of land somewhere and build a home out of 40ft shipping containers?
create an architectural oddity perhaps?
![]() 01/25/2018 at 07:11 |

Invest in a private eye and blackmail home owners into a sale.
It’s messy but a sure fire way to get a home (or jail cell)
![]() 01/25/2018 at 07:35 |

Damn. It’s almost like you just need to go door to door and ask people if they’re selling. It seems once a house actually hits the market you’re doomed.
Side note, I wish the market didn’t suck so much where I am in Jersey. I’ve been in my house 8 years. Have paid down over 40k in principal. If I were to sell today, I’d STILL take a loss on my house (which I bought at below market value). My development blows, it’s probably 10% vacant.

Bought a house in Palo Alto. 2006. Pretty much next to the University.
House was offered for 750. We had been outbid many times before on other properties.. This time we offered 825. basically 10% more than the asking price. We were outbid again.
Then I moved to Texas. Started a family. And, bought a house plus a rental property plus 4 cars.

Most people in Washington hate Spokane and make fun of it, it doesn’t bother me at all. Not Seattle but not a dump either.

I’ve been out to do inspections on the old Ridpath Hotel a few times. I really like the downtown area. But I also think Denver and Seattle are way too big.

I thought you were happy in your place, not huge, but better built than most newer piles, and you have a garage and a little yard?
I don’t envy anyone in this market, although I imagine you have a little equity due to the overall insanity.
![]() 01/25/2018 at 10:24 |

Is your offer contingent on selling your current home?
Because in the current market, almost no one accepts contingency offers.

Nope
