The !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! here in CA have claimed at least 6 lives now. Just heard they pulled two people alive from the mud. It is a huge disaster especially to all the people who just missed having their lives ruined from fire, now their lives are being ruined from much needed rain...
Poor trapped goat
As you can see there is literally no vegetation left from the 281,893 acre Thomas fire to hold that dirt.
Mud has filled homes and a huge swath of the 101
While not directly affected by the mudslides, I have lots of friends in that area I am worried about. As far as I can tell they are all safe. Cell phones have been in and out in the area and certain carriers have had no coverage.
Well here is 2017 pouring into 2018

Wow, I’m south of there and it didn’t quit raining yesterday. I’ve had the flu so I haven’t been outside in days.

What did I learn in my permaculture in tensive and later environment studies?
A piece of bare ground can hold 1 unit of water. If that same ground is grassed (pasture or prairie) it can hold 6 units of water. If that same ground is forested it can hold up to 40 units of water. Before sheeting or running water off the surface.
Hopefully folk are being safe out there.
