NO! I reject this. Barclay was an abomination in one too many episodes. He was almost as bad as Season 1 Worf, he of the gutteral grunts and chuffing and bravado (versus, you know, like actual lines of dialog).

Come to think of it, Barclay *was* the only character in TNG to achieve godlike powers a la Gary Mitchell that I can think of. Which is the sort of thing a self-insert character in a TOS fanfic would do.
