The man sitting in the car is easily recognizable as Thomas Edison. But who is the equally famous person in the ten-gallon hat?
Berang correctly ID’d the cowpoke as none other than Henry Ford.
I started reading a little bit of the Wiki article on !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , to learn the origin of the term “ten-gallon.” As I read the first paragraph, I couldn’t help but hear it in the voice of !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! . Somebody needs to create a robot that reads all Wiki articles in Moore’s voice.

Yes! Good eye.

The etymology is not certain but, what is certain, is that 10-gallon hat was never meant to hold ten gallons of water. They only hold about 3 quarts.

So is Thomas Edison the Steve Jobs of his time or is Steve Jobs the Thomas Edison of our time?

Well, they were both brilliant assholes, so I’m guessing it could go either way.

Here’s one a little more obscure:
You can probably figure out who the guy in the back seat is, but who is driving?

Give me a hint?

The car itself gives it entirely away.

That’s what I thought, so I googled a picture of Ransom Olds, but it didn’t look like him.

For some reason there are only pictures of him as an old guy online... except this one, where he looks like he looks.

So I was right! Interestingly, the car in the first pic is right hand drive.

Up until about 1910 most American cars were right hand drive. The model T was the first big seller to move the controls to the left. I believe the earlier idea was that you could watch the edge of the road better.

Interesting. I didn’t know that. Thanks.
