I made a sort of 2-step system in my car and tried to launch it. The first attempt resulted in clutch smoke. That smell never goes away...

You work at oreilly?

RPM jumping around is maybe due to an ignition control unit going bad... Or a bad coil.
Also, I’m not sure what you’re trying to do, but you maintain RPM WAY too high for a proper launch.

Try to start in 2nd if the clutch can hold that, your first gear is useless for all but wheelspin/getting it rolling really

No, they just have cheap hats.

The high RPM is due to a tiny engine trying to spin a large turbine and make power once I dump the clutch. I now have a smaller turbo and will adjust accordingly.

I shall try that although, the gear ratio and final drive in this transmission may not allow for that. I do now have a smaller turbo so now everything is different. We’ll see how it goes.
