As a European, I just cant believe the news stories coming from the US. Sure, we, as Europeans, have had our fair share of crap in the past, but the stuff going on there with the policing and riots and protests getting out of hand, I cannot fathom these events. I sincerely thought these kind of events and run-ins with the police were behind us.

The Paris suburbs erupt in riots pretty frequently, and London had riots a few years ago when police killed a black man. The problems are definitely more pronounced in the US though. Our cops are much more militarized.

As a North Carolinian, I can’t believe these stories. Here’s what has happened in out state in the past week:
-We’ve lost hundreds if millions of dollars, basketball, and our pride because the governor stands by his discriminatory polices.
-Said governor went up in the polls after point one.
-We have no gas.
-A presidental candidate has ignored history and been inadvertently racist in our state.
-Riots.

Thanks. I’m pretty grateful for the restraint shown by CMPD riot police last night, and very disappointed by those who just were getting high on violent confrontation when many, many people wanted to protest peacefully. What is not on the news nationally (from what I’ve seen) is the large group who went to a nearby church to hear speakers voicing concerns.
We have problems in Charlotte, but also a lot of people working hard to address those problems.
