It went about like this
Guy: “Name of beer store, How can I help you?”
Daily: “Is this the one on street name?”
Guy: “yep.”
Daily: “Is there a lot next to your building with a barbed wire fence in front of it?”
Guy: “Every lot on this street has a barbed wire fence”
Daily: “Are there some old cars sitting in this lot?”
Guy: “Yeah there’s a few. None for sale”
Daily: “Um... OK. Thanks.”

This is something you’d be better off doing in person I think. Building up some friendly chit chat, not necessarily coming off as somebody who just wants to buy cars, but rather an enthusiast who just wants to get a closer look maybe.

No, you likely can. You have to be 21 to buy it or go to a bar. Liquor stores are usually fair game in most states, though.

I’ve had this happen before... it sucks. ‘66 beetle in a yard in cahaba heights. Went to talk to the dude, such a dick. He wouldn’t even talk about the car. I hadn’t even asked if it was for sale and he shut me down.

You seem pretty familiar with birmingham then. The 2002 was on university just near where it crosses with 65 if you want to try and ask. But yeah. I have a feeling that’s how most would react if asked about a car. Won’t stop my stupid self from asking though.
