Kinja'd!!!

Serpentine belt from the SL, for your carnage viewing pleasure.

Got a new job back in April. Feels like out of the frying pan and into the fire. One bad situation to the next. Opened the job search up and am waiting for several return calls.

Because of my boss’s stupid “deal” making, Im currently in a corporate office for a nationwide chain for a total of 7 business days. Im only here because a coworker is in vacation. My boss didnt tell me directly where I was going, who to report to or anything else. I get to the place on Tuesday, and theyre pissed that Im only here for about a week, which is their training period. The helpdesk manager seemed pretty peeved about that. I was reassigned to basically cold call stores to have them restart hardware in the stores to slim down a daily report, due to a software bug.

Im the most qualified employee, and now the least motivated to stick around for the measely sum of money Im making. Im struggling to continue to be motivated, and Im sure my boss is doing this in an effort to attempt to break me of my habits (calling out coworkers for pathetically low quality of work), but after 5 months, this place was just a stepping stone for me. Long hours, some good experiences, and some bad ones. I cant wait to drop all 4 of my access cards on my bosses desk and walk out the door for the last time.

If I can, Ill be leaving the IT industry permanently, but there are a couple of companies that Im willing to give a chance, for the right offer. Im trying very hard to keep myself from letting my mental health and professional career look like the belt out of my SL. Its becoming a very bad situation.

My girlfriend just got a new job, shes doing very well and enjoys her new digs. It was a very good change for her. It gives her some very important opportunities that are absolutely imperative for the future. Now I guess its my turn to finally find the right fit for me. Im hoping a couple of leads work out, because I will not put up with this any longer than necessary.

I know that feel. I got hired for this job thinking I was going to be doing one thing (propulsion engineering) and ended up doing something completely different (HVAC engineering). I’ve gotten to the point in the last 6 months where I have completely run out of fucks to give, and to compound it all I hate myself for not caring, and not even being able to make myself care.

I’m going on vacation next week and when I get back I’m going into full job hunt mode. Although I’ve already got to avenues I’m currently exploring.

Anyways, best of luck to you, I’m sure you’ll find something better.

I’ve been working IT since 2000 and some days I feel like this.

since 2010 i’m the only IT for a company of 100 with 8 offices.

i still from time to time feel like that, just haven’t found anything better yet.

Thanks. I was supposed to replace another employee, get a raise, get some certifications, and the situation would have been a bit different. 5 whole internet points for the first person to guess how many of those things happened!

I dont hate myself for not caring, I have unfortunately been screwed in the past, so Im dishing it out just like its being given. I intend on copying my outlook file, documents and then formatting my machine before leaving.

Its a bad idea to piss off an overqualified IT person at any position. Im leaving zero documentation, and dont care about that end. They dont have any centralized documentation, so I dont mind leaving it how I found it.

Ive just learned that unless Im under contract to provide two weeks notice, sometimes its better to just not. Might be one more paycheck, but often its not worth the stress. Two weeks of feeling better is worth more than a paycheck as far as Im concerned. Have to put yourself first. No sense in not being happy. Just drags everything else down.

Yeah, I don’t blame you there. I was an intern for an IT company way back in high school, and they dicked me around a bunch so I decided to just stop working. I sent them a resignation email in the evening, and sometime overnight their own e-mail sever crashed so the next morning I got a frantic “where are you” call from my boss. It was pretty funny.

Unfortunately I can’t do anything like that. I also don’t hate the company I’m in. And I get paid good money and usually don’t have to bust my ass too hard, so it’s hard to fault. Plus marine engineering is a pretty small industry so I want to be careful and not burn any bridges. In fact we just had an employee so was job hunting, got an offer, our company counter-offered with more and he accepted. Then the other place called and made him a better offer than ours, so he took that one. A lot of people here were not happy about that.

I know the feeling of giving no fucks after the bring given the straw that broke the camel’s back. I’m kind of in a similar situation in terms of compensation not fitting the market rate for the work being done. Best of luck to you on your search. And I hope you’re getting out when you can to at least refresh your mental health.

It’s interesting you mention the part of not having any fucks to give yet hating yourself because you don’t. I’ve never been able to find anyone else who does that. Glad I’m not the only one who does it.

I need to order it still. Front end makes a ton of noise, but I didnt anticipate the SL breaking either and needing two pullies, ac compressor and a belt.

Soon though, I want to do it before it gets cold. I do have the subframe connectors, but Im swamped this weekend. What are you up to Sunday afternoon? Im going to Caffiene & Carburetors in the morning, but free in the afternoon once I make a quick pit stop after getting home.

On the east coast, its a difficult industry to get into. Im actually trained in Radio/TV. Problem is the unions here are terrified of people in their mid-twenties.

Im willing to give the AV industry another chance, but this company will need to pay me better than the last one. Im not taking crap for an answer.

Rightfully so. If you’re able to provide the service that they need then they had better expect to pay up the market rate.

Could very well be the case. I’ll keep you posted. Rear subframe connectors need installing. I’m sick of them rattling around the back seat and trunk.

I have to think about how to jack the car up, because one of the mounting locations is the rear jack point.

Do you have a drill and a 3/8" drill bit?

I have two drills and probably that exact bit somewhere

I want to do the bolt up install part first, but the installation requires one additional hole to be drilled on each side. That’s the bit that’s listed, so that’s what’s needed.

I just need to figure out how to jack the car up. I think from the diff, but it’s tight. I am unsure still. Need to think about it, because it’s a tricky install, even with a lift, because the lift covers the jack point as well....

Life is too short to stay in a job you do not enjoy. We work to live, not live to work! That belt looks way more shredded than I thought it was though.

You eventually have plans of getting into the auto industry right? I imagine that will take time and connections but what better time to start than now?
