UPDATE: Full disclosure: the Chevette was my dad’s first American car bought new. He kept it long enough that yes, I got to ride around in it for a while. Haha, first cars.

I’ll just leave this here. Sure, it’s a Pontiac, but that only means it’s sportier. Let’s just say: 0-60 in 30 seconds.

Had 1 4 speed, 2 5 speeds and an auto. loved them all. terrible, but indestructable cars. can be driven to shop to have engine replaced. In some ways, that makes a good car.

I had an ‘84 ‘Vette. If you ever get in one make note of how the steering column is installed at a little bit of an angle, and the steering wheel is not straight. They are all like that! It’s very subtle, but there. It was a lot of fun to beat the snot out of. That little thing took a lot of abuse!

I had a Chevette in high school. If anyone who hadn’t seen it asked what I drove, I just told them I had a “Vette”.

Did you notice how the steering column (and wheel) wasn’t straight ahead?

For a year or two those were sold as the T1000. There are Terminator jokes in there somewhere.

I had a friend back in the day who owned a Chevette. He beat the shit out of it and it kept running. His was a 4-speed (I think), and he was maniacal about never letting another Chevette go faster than him. It made for some interesting rides, especially since he was rarely sober.

I loved my Chevette. It was so fun to toss around, you didn’t really notice the kids on bicycles going faster than you.

Sounds right... there were 4 shitbox Chevettes that went through my family... 3 of them were automatics.

Oh they were destructible. My sister killed one within one month of getting it. Killed a 2nd one after 1 year. And had a 3rd one for 3 years and, while not dead, was in rough shape.
