Anything coachbuilt by Touring.
Or E80 Corolla Hatch, that’ll make a statement.

I think many of the 50's and early 60's customs should be allowed. Many neat cars were built and one off’s like alot of the coach build cars of the 20's and 30's

This is how the rest of the world sees America.

Does this mean I get to buy a Chevy Sprint and drive it onto Pebble Beach?

Counterpoint: 50's american cars don’t match up in terms of quality or desirability.

The “driver” Countache. I got stuck behind a few last year in traffic down there. “Stuck” in traffic at Pebble is more like a slowly moving car show.

I see your point, but really what did america really have for a coach work type car post war? That's were customs come in. Really there isn't much for American autos at a show like pebble beach from the 50s and 60s. I don't think any of the rarer muscle cars are allowed are they? I don't follow the rules much because I have little to no interest in seeing Porsches, Ferraris, or Lambos.

Any Auburns, Packards, vintage Ferrari, vintage Bugatti, Duesenberg or Delahaye. Hard to pick just one.

I think if they are documented customs that were modified back in the 50s or 60s I would agree. I think Bruce Meyer finally got them to allow period built hot rods a few years ago.

The thing is - if you want to see those cars, just go to any old car show. I get so sick of seeing American muscle at car shows. Seeing the other stuff is refreshing. Besides, Barrett Jackson and mecum still have auctions in Monterey during that week. You can still go see old American stuff.

That’s what I was thinking, all of the pictures I posted are of well documented customs. They did allow hot rods a couple years ago and it was a big success and very popular surprisingly. All the hot rods were well know and documented cars

Yes and no, most of the muscle cars you see at local shows are fake cars built from lower trim levels. At something at pebble beach, you would be seeing the absolute best of the best and rarest, stuff like 1 of 1 68 Z28 convertible, 1 of 6 or 7 70 Hemi Cuda Convertibles, to rare and oddball combos. You could be very very selective to make it work well.

I think the difference here is that what you see at Pebble generally isn’t 1 of 6 300SL’s. It’s 1 of 3000 300SLs ever built. Where as you’re describing a group of cars where they produced that many of them in a month. You can’t simply buy a lower model SL and make it into a gullwing and have that same experience whereas you can with a Mustang GT350 replica.
