Because it is and your opinion is incorrect
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:39 |

Nope. ‘98
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:40 |

IS there any other Cougar?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:40 |

Who invited you here crazy?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:40 |

THE BOSS (302) WOULD LIKE A WORD WITH YOU:
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:40 |

Not one this cool!
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:41 |

It's a tad bulky for my taste but it is race proven so there is some merit
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:45 |

I nearly bought a 70 XR7 convertible about 15 years ago. How I wish I had actually done so.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:45 |

I know a guy in the stagehands union with one exactly like that, it’s the only one I see around here.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:47 |

All cars look best in ‘67. ALL CARS!
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:49 |
|
68 is too old for me. I like women around my age.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:49 |
|
But that’s a picture of a ‘67. ‘67 is best year because it’s what’s in my garage and its new shoes are showing up today.
Or maybe it’s a ‘68 with ‘67 front fenders, as I see the Cougar script and side marker on the rear quarter. Odd.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:52 |
|
That front end looks way better than the mustang IMO
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:53 |
|
But if they’re around the same age as you they’re not a Cougar, you bozo.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:54 |
|
I think they have to be older then 18 to be called a cougar.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:56 |
|
‘67/’68 sheet metal, agreed. ‘69/’70 gets a little... misshapen. I don’t think the beak grill on the ‘70 or the running grill over the beak on the ‘69 looks as classy, and the side relief is just weird.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:58 |
|
True, but make it a ‘75 then or so. It bit less ‘overripe’, yet still a cougar.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 13:58 |
|
not 2000? :p
Too bad they canceled the Cougar S at the last minute (with the 200 hp Contour SVT V6). That’s what they needed to revive the Mercury brand. It was SO close to production that dealers had taken deposits for it, and you can still order parts for it.
More info about the stillborn Cougar S

Born in ‘68 or 68 years old? Either way I’m married so no thanks.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:00 |

That would have been a great deal at the time too I bet
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:01 |
|
My dad used to have one. He should have never sold it
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:02 |
|
Tis indeed odd. And you have a 67? It must be a blast
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:03 |
|
I agree. It doesn't ruin the design but it certainly isn't the greatest vintage of Cougar
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:04 |
|
You say 68 is the best age for a cougar?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:04 |
|
That might have been a little cult classic neat!
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:05 |
|
Anything less is just a shame
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:10 |
|
1970 was obviously the best year.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:10 |
|
That’s it. That’s the answer.
Buy 2000 Mercury and swap in a Contour SVT motor.
Finally a viable Mercury RallyX vehicle
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:10 |
|
FALSE
Because 1970 Eliminator:
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:12 |
|
Also false because the Montego came out in 68.
08/05/2016 at 14:13 |
|
I think I prefer the ‘69.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:13 |

Too bulky for me
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:14 |
|
I knew you would comment with the incorrect answer it was only a matter of time
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:15 |
|
It’s not bad. Better than the 70 I think
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:15 |
|
It’s certainly not the worst year for the Cougar.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:16 |

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_C… how can you possibly like that over the ‘97?
Vrooom vroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom!
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:18 |
|
Yep, it’s a cool car. My wife would prefer a Mustang, but I’ll stick with the current ride for a while at least. Mine’s a later ‘67 (April build date) so it’s still a 289, but has 302 stamped in the valley on the block. Still has the original engine and transmission.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:18 |
|
I don’t know about Cougars but 68 was the best year for the Camaro! (I might be a little biased though)
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:23 |
|
If this is wrong, I don’t want to be right.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:26 |

In “fair driver” condition - 2-3 maybe, it was $5500. I had talked him into $5000 but someone showed up a few hours before I could get there. It was in Durham and I was in Mooresville...
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:26 |

1978 was the best!!!!! j/k it was terrible, but it was my first and I loved it. My friends called it “The Nimtz”
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:31 |
|
68 for a cougar? Too old.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:34 |
|
Always cool to hear the original parts staying with the car that is all too often not the case
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:34 |
|
Haha you're a tad bias
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:36 |
|
Oh yes. I once helped a friend change plugs on one of the spring 1968 made Cougar GT-E with the 428 Cobra-jet. Only 30 some were made with that engine, earlier 427 cars had more horsepower. We had to unbolted the motor mounts and jacked the engine to get to the plugs easier. Its been so long (1974) I’m trying to recall the color, IIRC it was gold with black top.

Cougar, eh..... Humans, or cars?
Why not both?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:39 |
|
That's an awesome car. Really rare too. Do you know what ever happened to it?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:39 |
|
One to drive and one to ride eh?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:44 |
|
You sure it’s not this one?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:47 |

I really like the days when cars had real metal details. It’s an attention to detail that doesn’t exist on modern cars today, but back then it was de rigueur for even the base model vehicles.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 14:52 |
|
A little year called 1998, ever heard of it?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:02 |

I think you’re forgetting who the MERCURY EXPERT IS
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:02 |

Nope. I’m one of those wierdos who prefers the ‘71-72.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:04 |

It is runner up
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:04 |
|
Be gone with you
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:06 |
|
I say it is time for an overthrow
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:11 |
|
In all seriousness, the only time a generation of Cougar was better than the one that came before it was when it moved to the Fox platform (7th gen?). Besides that it actually became worse each time they updated it. 67-70 is clearly the best cougar.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:24 |

‘67 - Neko Case-approved.
My parents had a ‘67 Caliente in burgundy. Wish I could find that rig.

I have no idea, it was a nearby neighbor of my best friend from school. We were just 19 then and he was in the same tech school with me in Elizabeth City NC. He lived near the Coast Guard base there. I went off to a regular college and didn’t see him again for about 10 yrs. Never asked whatever became of it. Being it was a sorta military town if it was sold, a Coast Guardsman could have taken it when moving to another base. Some cars got bought and sold repeatedly to incoming guardsmen as others transferred . My Fiat 850 Spider was around that town from 1971 to 1980. My Triumph TR4 was around there until about 1985. I had moved away but when visiting saw my two old rides a few times and my best friend’s old Fury II 2 Dr with 318.
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:35 |
|
Oh interesting. The best thing about a base is you could gets cars coming in from California or Maine just depending on where and when a transfer occurred
![]() 08/05/2016 at 15:39 |
|
Yep, small city but we saw every type of car there.

When you’ve nestled 2 Mercurys in a garage to hide them from the snow we can have a discussion about the matter
![]() 08/05/2016 at 16:32 |

why not 1967?
![]() 08/05/2016 at 17:30 |

Fair enough
![]() 08/05/2016 at 17:30 |

Dad had a 68

Well considering what they started looking like after the 80's, yes the 1960s and 1970s are the best. Now if someone could sell me a electronic fuel injected version with MP3 capability 1960's Mercury Cougar...
