Hey Europeans! I’m travelling to Paris/Rouen and then London for a vacation this next week. What are some cool auto places to visit?

An American in Paris for your time...

Wow, where do you start? Regardless of your preferences for one type of culture over another, DO NOT MISS the Louvre, Sacre Coeur/Monmartre, Eiffel Tower; then Tower of London, British Museum, St. Paul’s Cathedral. At least a half a day each, if you’re hurrying. How much time do you have? If you’re leaving the city at all, I’d add Versailles (FR) and Bath (UK) as easy daytrips.

In London?

I can only try to talk you into going out of London - the Morgan factory tour and a trip to the Grand Prix Collection at Donington Park makes a fantastic day trip.

I’ll second the British Museum. Come look at all the stuff we stole while we were off Empiring and won’t give back!

If you’re heading out of London at all then the Brooklands Motor Museum isn’t far, and I’d thoroughly recommend both Bath and Brighton as cool places to visit (went to university in Bath, and live ~45mins from Brighton). If you decide to head out to either I can let you know specifics depending on what you like :)

Ah, are you hiring a car or public transport?

The Citroën factory just outside Paris has a museum that contains ~400 Citroëns. It’s not publicly open but they are arranging couple of guided tours per week. If you like Citroëns it’s a worth for a visit. I visited the place in February and it was awesome. Understanding French would be helpful during the tour but not essential.

London hates cars.

Signed, a Londoner.

P.S. We hate everything in general.

However we have no money now and those fancy dollars of yours are now worth quite a bit so:

1. It’s summer, so the Arabs are about with all of their fancy cars so plenty of car spotting to be had.

2. Mi6 had to get their storage facility fumigated so all of Bond’s cars are currently being stored in the Film museum so go have a gander. http://londonfilmmuseum.com/home/?moveto=.…

3. Speaking of museums, London has a lot of them and most of them are free. A lot of them have vehicles in them.

4. Other things the UK has a lot of is race tracks. There are more than a dozen within a couple hours drive of London so finds some wheels and go for a blast. Or go to Mercedes Benz World which is about an hour to the west for an hour of AMG hoonage for about £100.

5. Trains are technically cars and we like old cars so therefore we should like old trains. So go visit the Bluebell Railway since it’s about an hour south of London and runs everyday.

6. Back to cars, McLaren’s factory is next to Mercedes Benz World. They do tours so go have a listen about how excellent their catering services are (Yes McLaren also does catering as well as building hypercars).

There are several car showrooms on the Champs Elysées if you find yourself there - Citroën, Renault and Mercedes amongst others - but they’re not worth going to specially.

There’s lots of cool cars being driven all over Paris. Head to the Champs-Elysees if you want to see lots of super cars. I saw lots of cool older cars being driven near the Eiffel Tower as well.

Thanks for the suggestions! I’ll be hiring a car for France but relying on public transportation in the UK.

I’m only there for about a week and a half but I’m packing in a lot. I’ll be doing the Eiffel, Normandy Beach, Tower of London, Buckingham Palace, Imperial War Museum, and some other stuff. The British Museum looks great too.

Go there! You won’t find a better smelling car factory in the world, I promise.

Imperial War Museum is pretty cool (I love all WWII history). I've done the Tower 3-4 times and it's still amazing. But I'd have to say the British Museum is THE place to go if you could only do one thing in London. It might be my #1 stop in all of Europe. It's like a textbook come to life. Normandy will eat up a lot of time, but definitely worth it — I haven't had the chance, personally.

Gotcha. There’s still good transport links to Brighton and Bath by train, but I’m not so sure about Brooklands.
