I have a critter that looks like this on my screen door this morning. I’ve named him Norman.

That may be a Praying mantis

Except Norman instead of Squishy.

Praying mantis. Most of the ones around here are green, but I’ve seen a couple of browner ones. I think wingless = male, but it’s been a while since I’ve checked that out. There’s probably a head-munching in Norman’s future.

Of course! After mating, the female bites off the male’s head, if I remember correctly.

You be right. He/she has been there for hours.

WOOO HOOOO Friday!!!!!! ... errr..... religious bugs?
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:14 |

As others have mentioned, praying mantis. Stick bugs look much more like an actual stick.

Pound for pound, arguably THE most badass animal in existence. Honey Badger ain't got shit on the mantis family.

Yep! It’s been praying for hours.

So I found out by Googling. That stick bug in pic really does look like a stick.

Hello!
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:23 |
|
Norman is your friendly Ford GT waiting list liaison, there to keep your application profile current. He sees everything. Everything...
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:25 |
|
Hello! I can do this.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:26 |
|
Hahaha! You crazy man.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:29 |

I always found it pretty neat how close they looked. Big suckers too.

I think katydids are fascinating too. Mother Nature is something else.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:48 |

Just like people, but more literally.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:50 |

Praying mantis are vicious!
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:51 |
|
You got that right!
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:53 |

Dayum! Poor fish!
![]() 07/29/2016 at 10:57 |

And before there was Dory and her little friend Squishy:

The Mantis Shrimp would like a word with you.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 11:11 |
|
You should have named him Zorak.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 11:14 |
|
Good idea!
![]() 07/29/2016 at 11:29 |
|
They’re known for catching hummingbirds feeding on flowers too!
![]() 07/29/2016 at 11:33 |

“I shall name him George...”
Classic.
![]() 07/29/2016 at 11:33 |
|
I had no idea. Little bastards.

My kids are among the few that understand the reference. I blame the lack of cable television when they were little and the Looney Tunes video tapes that I used to fill in the gap. :)
![]() 07/29/2016 at 11:44 |

In your case, I’d actually blame it on being a good parent, and doing crazy things like exposing kids to good cartoons. Thumbs up to you!

Thanks! They are also the only kids that can identify most classic rock bands with a 10-second clip. My daughter’s first vinyl album (by request) was Dark Side of the Moon. One moment I’m proud, the next I’m worried - her latest obsession is broadway show tunes. :/

I’m glad humans just use divorce.

Oh, gosh! Me too!
