I’ve been mulling over an idea for the past week. This idea is as follows:
Take something like this,
and add the remaining life blood of something like this.
https://erepairables.com/salvage-cars-a…
Not this is exact one, but something like it.
I would of course lose the backseat of the Beetle, but I could live with that. The funny thing is both cars have the same wheelbase. The Boxster’s track is 5~6 inches wider both front and rear. The car should be plenty fast even with the smaller engine. I would have to remove the body from the pan. Cut the pan at the front seats. Fabricate a tubular rear sub-frame, tie in the front beam with more tubing.
My first question is do these suffer the same issues as the 911's with the IMS? Do Porsche ECUs require the cluster and key like VW’s to operate? Should I try to find a newer Boxster or Boxster S? I think my ceiling would be $6k for the front end damaged Porsche. I would rather buy a whole car and not just the engine and transaxle. There are probably lots of little things on the car that would be cool on the Beetle.
Thoughts? Anyone.....

Boxster and 911 engines have all the same problems, they basically differ only in displacement, intake, and exhaust . The ECM does need the key and immobilizer unless you use standalone or have someone unlock it. The 2.5s are dogs, the 3.2S and later base 2.7 are much better. The early 996 3.4 is faster than them all.
You’ll have to work in a place for the cooling system front to rear, it’s expansive. Bug pans are made out of tinfoil, you might just want to chuck everything but the body. Could be a fun project though.
