Generic but sophisticated is probably a good way to put it. It’s easy to make a good impression in a Volvo because people usually don’t have some sort of preconceived notion in the first place (not like the BMW stigma, the Audi stereotype, the Lexus cult, etc.)

I remember that episode on TV. Pretty much sums up the appeal of modern Volvos, the ultimate sleepers/Q-cars.

S80 V8 takes it a step further.

Yeah. Probably one of the subliminal reasons I like Top Gear so much, they have a strong appreciation for the Swedish greats ;)

They even raced a 9-5 Aero against a jet fighter, drove an 850R many miles and dedicated a large chunk of an episode to Saab.

Top Gear has done some stupid moves in the past, but this was a good choice.
