I would post images but where I am Kinja doesn’t work properly.
I am saving money right now for a R33 GTR and am planning on buying one before legality to save money. If this method doesn’t work this time, it worked with R32s, I need backup plans. The early/mid 90s are my favorite era of cars when it comes to EUDM or JDM imports.
Aside that many other cars from that era i’m looking at. S14s, Celica GT-Four, Pulsar GTIR, EVO 1-3, Ford Esocort Cosworth, etc. However those can also rise in price and become expensive. What about cars that not many people are aware of?
The latest we will be looking at here are 1994 (2019 legality) cars.
U13 Bluebird SSS Attesa -
Sold as an Altima in the US over in Japan you could get one with AWD and a SR20DET. It is a good 300lbs or so more than the EVO 1-3 or WRX from the era and more similar to the Celica GT-Four. Because it’s a SR20DET car it has a GT28 turbo which can be tuned to around 300whp easily. It doesn’t have the Pulsar GTIR SR20 despite having the Pulsar GTIR trans, the version with a LSD. It has different gearsets. Like the Pulsar GTIR it is relatively weak so you would need to buy PPG gearsets if you want big power. GTIR gearsets obviously work.
The car isn’t very exciting or cool looking but has huge sleeper factor since it just looks like a early 90s altima.
Stagea -
Whether it is a under the radar or not I believe it is but it’s close to borderline. It basically is a Skyline but as a wagon with all the same GTS, GTR, etc type trims the Skyline has. Though here the GTR is called a Autech 260rs. It weighs like 200lbs or so more than a GTR but has room to load wheels with Rcomps in the back. Prices for these are right now significantly lower than equivalent Skylines.
Alfa Romeo 155 Q4 -
Lancia Delta Integrale drive-train in a sedan. Less body issues, ie pillar cracks on the Delta. It weighs quite a bit more though and it has more electronic luxury features with italian reliability to drive you nuts. I’ve seen a number of these in Japan auctions for 1000s less than a Delta. The 16v and 8v non-evo deltas from the late 80s are though quite a bit more affordable as well but not quite like this car. You can find many of these untouched with mods as well from what i’m seeing.
Subaru Legacy RS -
Like the Evolution VR4 (virtually extinct in the wild in Japan), the pre Impreza/Lancer subaru rally competition. Same engine as the early GC8 cars (EJ20G). I do not know much about these but they are very inexpensive and have a following overseas.
Toyota Cresta -
Like the Chaser, a more well known car. Same chassis, same engine (1jzgte), available manual, big sedan. This and the chaser both sell for very little there, this car less so. Very bland looking car so huge sleeper potential.
This is all I can post for now. Anyone have any others?
The requirements to fit in this category are enthusiast cars (or potential) 1994 and earlier from Japan (so can be imported this decade to the US) that are underappreciated and/or cheap and would be worthwhile to import.

Ya if you are into SUVs aside from like 2 cars it’s a buyers market. You can buy things on the penny there.

And for Canadians, next year we can have one of these.
I cannot wait. And, in 2018, you can have one of these.

The R33 is my favorite GTR. I would love one bone stock. Found a nice
1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec BCNR33 Manual 4WD
for $35,000 AUD which currently is $26264.88 USD. Not too bad...
I love how stock this is. Even has the stock wheels!!! <3

You should be careful about the pricing. Some of those cars that are cheap might stay that way, some might not. The Stagea in particular is one I would hope to go up in value, once people realize what they are. We have quite a few of them in Australia and they’re cool as balls

Ya I don’t expect all these cars to go up in price, really these are just what I see as cheap right now.
Stagea is something I for sure see going up in price.
