It’s a TG reference. Clarkson showed that if you drive a Prius flat out and the battery isn’t getting used, you get worse mileage than you do driving an M3 flat out. Kind of misleading, but then, I do see a surprising amount of Priuses going flat out.

Yesterday I was coming up on a red light with one car in each lane: a 3 series in the left and a Prius in the right. I switched to the right lane because I knew the Prius driver was going to floor it the moment the light changed.
