Cylinder soaked overnight in a mix of 30 weight and pb blaster. No bueno-still stuck. Cleaned out what I could reach of the mouse nest in the intake manifold, but there’s more deep down where the shop vac doesn’t reach. The disassembly continues.

Chrysler ATF+4 works wonders. Actually any domestic “red” trans fluid works well. PB+30W isn’t as good IMHO. Enjoy the dismantling.

Also, PB is a
catalyst.
It is best used in conjunction with a dedicated penetrating oil such as Deep Creep, Krill Oil, or ol fashioned WD-40. It will actually increase the penetrating effect of the base penetrant. makes it like Super PB.

Good advice, thanks. I’m a complete and total noob on my first project, so I take no offense at being offered a better way of doing things.

Yup. Atf is mostly just lubricant and detergents. Works well at unsticking stuff, and topping off your motor oil with atf helps eliminate carbon deposits.
When I had my w124 I did an oil change only to realize I was out of fresh oil, to my surprise. Also, I happened to be between paydays. Instead of adding back the used oil I filled it with synthetic atf. Castrol multi vehicle atf, actually. Ran the car for months filled with the stuff... then the tranny started slipping on the 1-2 and I dumped it for the e38.
Internals were surprisingly clean for a vehicle with almost 400,00km on it after all was said and done.

Agreed, ATF is usually best for getting stuck cylinders unstuck.

ATF + acetone is supposed to make for a very effective and cheap penetrating oil. I’ve not used it, but there is a lot of anecdotal evidence to suggest that it may be the ultimate snake oil when it comes to getting things unstuck. It does separate over time, so you have to mix it right before you use it.
