Kinja'd!!!2 Kinja'd!!! 23

Yesterday afternoon I got a call at work from our alarm company.. Seems someone decided to kick our front door in to see what they could take.

Kinja'd!!!

Wankers let our chocolate lab out of her crate, took an ipad (which has been bricked now), and emptied the drawers of a table by the door.. ended up with a set of Forester keys and a set of RV keys from our travel trailer.

I got there before the security company, and stood out front with my neighbours. Security got there and cleared the house, then RCMP arrived and we all went through the house.

They ripped the doorbell and the thermostat off the wall thinking it would stop the alarm, left glove prints on everything, and managed to hit two other houses on our street.

The worst is the Subaru keys.. car is being parked in the garage with a club on until the dealer can reprogram a set of new keys for it. RV is going in for a re-key later this week.

We got off light, no one was hurt, and everything was covered.. still sucks balls.

Did you scold your lab for not ripping their throats out?

Was Dudley busy stopping the great Canadian Maple Syrup Heist of 2016? If not, I have no idea how both you and the security company beat him to the scene.

Based on the sheer idiocy of everything, I suspect the Animal Liberation Front. Or ISIS. But hopefully the former.

I had a moron bust the passenger window out of my truck so he could steal my Sirius satellite receiver. 5 minutes later I shut it off. That’s like stealing a cable box.

The funny thing is they didn’t notice my $1,000+ metal detector lying in the back seat.

You could take the battery out of the Subie or otherwise disable it for now. That sucks though. Sorry to hear that. Statistics show that most break ins actually happen during the day. For that reason, I’m glad I’m a stay home dad. This is my biggest fear. I've thought about getting an alarm. Not necessarily one that is monitored, just something that will make a hell of a lot of noise if the door gets kicked in.

Damn, that sucks. Glad everyone is okay. Wonder why they let your dog out. Maybe they were going to take the dog? Seems weird to let a dog out of the crate, unless she got out and went after them.

That’s probably the best part about having a territorial dog. Anyone that comes in to my house besides my wife and I and my one dog freaks the hell out. Oh, might not be a bad idea to disconnect the battery or fuel line in the RV in the meantime until you get the chance to have it rekeyed.

She’s fine, a little upset but nothing a cookie and a backscratch couldn’t fix.

They go through on the lock side or the hinge side?

That’s a major downside of having Malamutes - they will let anyone in the house without raising an eyebrow. And help them take the stuff.

No idea, honestly that was who I was most worried about when I pulled up.

She’s a chocolate lab, so unless she could trick them into throwing her ball for an hour while the police arrive she’s not much help.

Even though you got off light, it’s the psychological trauma of feeling violated and unsafe in your house that’s the worst thing.

A few years ago I had $12,000 in camera equipment stolen. Insurance got me back about $11,000 of it, but the worst thing was I had an assignment the next day. I had to borrow someone’s stuff.

If you steal someone’s car, someone’s work tools, and you are caught, you should be hanged.

Lock side jamb blew out, no footprints on the door = shoulder or tool.

Not much sleep last night. Between trying to remember everything that taken, to listening to every noise in the driveway, it’s def a coffee day today.

The stay function on the alarm is for when we are at home at night - it immediately goes full-on if any door or window is opened. There is a delay on the away just to give me time to get in and deactivate it.

My biggest fear is an alarm at night when we are all home.

My place in Florida had an alarm system and they could even tell you what room the person was in. I know this because I got a call at 2am.

Security: Hi this is X security. Are you ok?
Me laying in bed: Umm...should I not be?
Security: We have an alert in your downstairs living room. Someone is down there.
Me looks for the cat, she is sleeping beside me. Reaches for 10mm in locked drawer: I am fine, however, if you hear a really loud noise I may not be.

Long story short. My motion detector was dying and needed a new battery. The dying detector was showing phantom images. I was totally ready to use the Castle Law of Florida if I had too. Bastards aren’t getting my entire season of Farscape on DVD if I can help it!

That’s so weird to me. You’d think they’d have some sort of game plan and keep an eye open for any valuables. What’s the point for just an Apple iBrick and keys that you won’t use? All the risk and damage to someone for no little to no reward.

Idiots. Sorry to hear that it happened though. Even with little financial damage that sucks. Stay safe.

Probably will get caught fairly quickly then. The police officer that lives down the street from me said the long-lived professional crews almost always go in hinge side because pretty much no one reinforces there.

i got robbed in Spain. Its hard to describe the loss of privacy when your stuff has been gone through.

note double check to make sure no paperwork/bank info is gone.
