Passenger Display Screen is My Favorite Thing About Modern Ferrari

The four seater Ferrari’s passenger side screen has had an evolution from a simple “Oh SHIT!” meter into a fully interactive display. This is a feature I hope trickles down to all vehicles. For years now I have wondered why the driver gets a bunch of buttons and controls they can’t operate most of the time and rear passengers can get motorized sunshades and standalone tablets in modern cars, and yet the front passenger gets a plaque reminding them of what vehicle they are in...if their lucky!

I hope the passenger side receives a touchscreen capable (when enabled by the driver) of controlling all the infotainment functions as well as apps, games, and even a video player. Most glove boxes aren’t big enough to fit a tablet and heated steering wheels and alcantara have killed gloves for most fancy car drivers. The need for that space is disappearing so you might as well make a simple cut out for reaching the cabin air filter, a slot to hide a tablet, and integrate a screen for the passenger to play with.

Funny thing is that in the US the front passenger seat is the second most preferred position. We are the reason front passenger seats are being made to have the same amount of adjustability as the driver seat (you’re welcome, World). Go ahead and add that besides “proper cupholders” to the list of Car Things Americans Forced to be Awesome. Just for funzies, here is proof that being the front passenger is the most boring thing to be.

Ferrari GTC4Lusso, I would love to spend hours as a front seat passenger in this!

Passenger displays will be an expected luxury feature by the end of this decade. Check your phone in 2019 because I’m calling it now!

One reason why I think passenger screens should be better are for the reasons you expressed: I’m busy driving, my passenger can deal with all the bullshit. Read me the directions because GPS voices fucking suck, control the music, et cetera. As much as some vehicles get praise for being “drive focused” (i.e. everything is turned toward the driver and the passenger can’t do shit), I think a more balanced approach is better.

It was cooler when Harley Earl did it in his personal Corvette in 1963.

I’ll mark it in my calendar.

Honestly? That Ferrari dash looks like the FSM.

Hideous.

I’d love a return to the mid 60s through late 70s interiors. The “Don’t touch unless you’re the driver” years. The passenger is just that. A passenger. Too cold? Bah.

Don’t like the music? Aww.

Too fast? I’ll let you out any time.

All these “luxury” features filter down and make otherwise normal vehicles so damn expensive it’s sickening.

FCA actually does this pretty well. The touchscreen uconnect is really good and placed well for operation by the passenger.
