From that angle, I’m not sure there can be any doubt anymore about the next 911 GTE being mid-engined. It still kinda looks like a 911 though, so I guess Porsche just asked for a waiver from the FIA/ACO instead of basing it on an all-new street model, like was rumored.
Not sure how I feel about this. It’s gonna be weird.

There are people who will argue until they’re blue in the face that the C7 is actually mid-engined because the engine sits behind the front axle.

It is mid engined. Front mid engined instead of rear mid engined, but still mid engined.

I guess technically they are front-mid-engined. And yes, if the Porsche has more of its engine in front of the rear axle than behind it, it will become mid-rear-engined. It is a bit of a technicality I agree, but I guess it’s also symbolic.

Porsche has been moving the axle back and the engine forward for years in the production cars, but the back ‘seat’ is in the way. Lose the rear bench and swap the engine and trans around, and you gain a lot more than 4 inches.
Just look where that NACA duct is, as well as the rear vents. I wouldn’t be surprised if we see a GT1-like scoop on top at some point.
